They look better they handle better i don't think that lancer could take the TA22 1973 TOYOTA CELICA TA22 LT 1.6 litre celica in a drag if u had a vote i think that the celica would be more popular because face it looks better and is overall a better car but of course it is its a TOYOTA! The number of gears is hardly the be-all-and-end-all of performance. A lot of 5-speeds of the day were identical to their respective 4-speed compatriots, just with an overdrive added for cruising. My mates RA40 18R-C can't keep up with the lancer on dirt roads and the lancer can't keep up with the RA40 on dirt roads they are very similar in speed and acceleration but the lancer does handle better, And my ae82 eats both of them on all surfaces, DOHC is better than SOHC. An 18R-C is an asthmatic truck motor that should never be refered in the same sentence as performance. TA22's were a better prospect, but still a bit fat for my liking. Lancers of that era were quite nimble little things with a reasonable amount of poke. A better package, even with the cart spring solid rear end. This thing proves toyota is worthy of the name if you disagree we sorry but you gotta be dumb or not nothing about racing or car history!!! Basically what I'm saying is that "too quick" doesnt have a clue but anyone that thinks this lancer has a chance at taking a TA22 toyota Celica 1.6 is really dumb did you know they actually had a 5speed box the T50 everyone wants for there stupid engine conversions!!!!!
