October 19, 200620 yr comment_147304 Ok boffins.... Google hasn't been able to help me this time. I have, amongst many other cars, an 84 tercel with a 3AC. I dig this car... It drives over or through whatever you point it at with surprising enthusiasm. So considering the duties the poor little ninja tercel is forced to endure, I'd really love to shove a diesel in it rather than the 4AGE I have quietly corroding in the shed. I also make my own biodiesel so yeah... cheap transport! Anyone know if JDM 'rollas had a diesel variant in the A series? Report
October 19, 200620 yr comment_147335 Short answer - no. The closest diesel to the a-series would be the c-series. Report
October 19, 200620 yr comment_147349 maybe a diesel front cut off a car with some custom work? that way you could get an appropriate gearbox also. Report
October 20, 200620 yr comment_147363 I think you'll have a very hard time doing this conversion at even a reasonable price. You could get a 1ND-TV 1.4L 88bhp SOHC turbo diesel motor from the European Yaris. Another option would be the 1CD-FTV 2.0L 114bhp DOHC turbo diesel. Of course, you'd have to get either of these motors imported from Europe or some other diesel selling market - good luck affording that. Or while we're dreaming, you may as well consider the 1KD-FTV 3.0L 170bhp DOHC turbo diesel. At least it is available in Australia. Good luck on fitting a Hilux 4WD transmission though. Report
October 20, 200620 yr comment_147379 There have been a few 10x diesels imported into Australia, with the AWD too (I think a guy on Twincam had one at one stage), pretty sure they were Japanese market not Euro Report
October 20, 200620 yr Author comment_147380 Well... that was the answer I didn't want, but glad I got. Cheers for the research ancullen. aaaw but the 4AG is just so ho-hum..... I wanna do something different with the ninja tercel.... Report
October 20, 200620 yr Author comment_147381 From what I can gather, there were JDM diesel tercels but only in the later models with east-west engines and fulltime AWD. I have the obscure AL25 with the north-south 3ac and part time 4wd. Options seem to be limited. Report
