demuire Posted October 10, 2004 Author Report Posted October 10, 2004 (edited) Took the car up to 100k's on the freeway today, and I'm certain if I was strapped to the engine of a 747, I'd still be less deaf. At 60 the car is annoying, at 100 it's just plain ridiculous... Had a squiz at the rear brakes again, the axles seem to be seated well still, so don't know if I'm going to drop everything again or wait till I find another center... Am not sure how I'm going to get the car to Willowbank on the weekend, if I don't find another center by then I think I'm just going to have to whip out the BIG ear muffs... Or the noise cancelling headphones? Edited October 10, 2004 by demuire Quote
demuire Posted October 16, 2004 Author Report Posted October 16, 2004 Changed the oil in the diff yesterday, and here is the drain plug: Mmm, lots of "bits" sticking to the magnet... Even better, here are some "arty farty" shots of the oil: Mmm, shiny bits... Quote
irokin Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Metal filings in the diff oil is never a good sign...neither are nasty sounds Quote
demuire Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 *grumble grumble* STUPID farking CAR *whinge whinge* Needless to say, no I didn't do motorkhana today. Yes I made it to Queensland Raceway. Barely. THANK YOU to Mr :) for the tow home. Back up on the shopping list: Diff. New discs. Have to find out what on earth is wrong with the stupid thing. Quote
demuire Posted October 19, 2004 Author Report Posted October 19, 2004 Tried to have a look at the brakes last night, and couldn't get the axles out! Hammered and banged and made lots of noise, but it wouldn't come out... Hmm... Anyways, put it all back together and it seems to clear now. I think the disc is warped though, as it doesn't turn very smoothly (rubs slightly against the pad at one point on the disc). Car is supposed to go away today (didn't happen yesterday), maybe after it comes back I'll have another look at it, maybe borrow a slide hammer or something... Hopefully the axle hasn't welded itself to the center or something silly like that... Quote
demuire Posted November 7, 2004 Author Report Posted November 7, 2004 Axles are out, diff center is out (oooh sparkly!), I LOVE HAVING THE CORRECT TOOLS (referring rather specifically to Mr Dixon's slide hammer ). Couldn't find 12mm spanners so bought 2 more, can't ever have enough 12mm spanners when you own a Corolla :D Bringing center to Diff Lapping tomorrow, hopefully they'll sort it out and Hal will be on the road again soon! trdcamrypride Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 hmm yes my camry seems to gobble them to i have lost 4 of them in 6 months. Quote
irokin Posted November 7, 2004 Report Posted November 7, 2004 Ive lost things in between the block and the starter motor (not knowing that I had lost them) only to find them months down the track. Last time I went to the wreckers I (no shit) took a rachet and a 12 and 14mm sockets and some vice grips....vice grips are god. Quote
