Teddy Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Hey All Well, i have decided to fix up my yellow parts car - Ive got more than enough ke70 parts to do it with - and i need to make some money - dammm being a poor yr 12 student ! Anyway !! For you who don't know... Ke70 - 4KC Stock Working Cold Airon Toe Bar S model (bottom of range) Shredded seats all round (yup, there F**ed) Usual Corolla Rust - not as bad as the blue corolla.. (nick now has it) Now, Yesterday and today i have been hauling ass (i think anyway) with fixing the rust in the car. Now, before you see the photos, remember this is the FIRST time i have done any type of panel beating, so I'm classed as a "Stage 1 Nubee" Project Yella-K Part 1 Fix Rust in boot. i have been working on the back right section of the boot (have to start some where) - it had the worst chunk of rust... have a look.. Before i started out - oh can anyone tell me what that foam crap is called? Cutting out the crap with a hack saw.. Crap has been removed from section 1 :D Replacement Panel - CHECK ! Mwahahahahahaha !!!!! (its undercoat btw) - oh the pop rivet ends are there just for the photo to show where they are :) Now, i have to bog the bumps, sand it down, try out some fiber glass etc Some one stop me :) :bouncy: (I'm still a bit dizzy from all the paint stripper fumes WoW) Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 man thats good work. wont the pop rivets leave little spots on the panel when its done? Quote
demuire Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Pretty cool, I still think the space invader was a cool "fix", especially the bits that were sanded down and even looked like part of the car :) Would have been much better to weld the replacement in, but welding is hard, and riveting is easy :D Pop rivets would work, I guess that's sort of the next best alternative. Bear in mind that pop rivets are generally aluminium, and the car body is steel, having different metals like that react and can encourage rust to develop in the steel. All in all, top effort. I can't believe you actually used a hacksaw to cut those sections out, that's just... commitment :) Well done. I had some panel beating work today too, fixing my front guard... Kinda looks straight now, but unlike you my enthusiam isn't quite as "unlimited" and I kinda went "meh" after about half an hour... Quote
Teddy Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 lol thanks fook yeah, hacksaw didn't work too well for the start - cut the entire left side out and realized.. hang on - the blade is on the wrong way around, not to mention that is missing alot of teath... :) *Nags mum to go down to bunnings* 30 Min's later i figured out which way they go, and that new 1's are sharper and cut faster :D - ahh such lessons are only learnt by actually doing the task ! Still had a great day tho... being the occasional social outcast on weekends isn't so bad now and again lol ! Quote
demuire Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 being the occasional social outcast on weekends isn't so bad now and again lol ! Heh... Then again I spent a good part (or rather most of) today making noise and bad smells (read: panel beating and painting) in the garage and looking up law firms... oh-so-much-fun Quote
Felix Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 jigsaws are good to with a fine blade, if you have clearance behind. great for tranny tunnels, no sparks to f@$k all your glass. Quote
Teddy Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 wtf is a "hacksaw"? :D lol yeah i have one of those, but its very loud - don't want to give the old foke's next door a reason to have a hard attack :) Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 haha noise. i used to rent a shed that was zoned industrial, so noise limit was 11pm. the uni was stupid enough to build student accomodation next door. when i was sanding my ke35 and lucky was spraying his, using the orbital sander and air compressor until 11pm for about three weeks in a row, they made a complaint to my landlord about the noise, who promptly told them to go f@$k themselves :) Quote
