Hey all

(to those who have a carburetor on there motor)

Well, you know what its like in the mornings sometimes... the car just doesn't wanta start?

Well, i was thinking.. you know how when the intlet manifold is cold, the fuel get *stuck* (if thats the correct language) on the inside of it... (when it warms up, it flows nicely) - would it be possible to create an *inlet manifold warmer* ? -

I know people are now saying *derrr just use the choke* - but when i use the choke (as in pull out lever 5mm) - the motor floods it self and just stops. Not to mention the un-nessary fuel consumption

Here is a pic to what i mean

(i think ive got the facts correct?) - don't flame me too badly if ive got it all wrong... I'm already charred enough from Sundays Event (darn sun!)

Already exists. If you notice (well on some cars anyway) there is a flap on the air filter for "hot" or "cold" (or sometimes "summer" and "winter"). That flap, when in "cold" mode, basically sucks air from just above the exhaust manifold to help get warm air into the carb.

oh so thats what that thing on there is !

well strike me lucky !

Sweet ! (and to think i didn't have to spend a cent!)

U learn something every day !

i know what you mean but i think its just that the motor is cold, and therefore tight, which would help in hard starting. but, yes the fuel should be warm so it vaporises.

your on the right track, good thinkin 99.

but a manifold warmer would also warm the air, which is bad. you will see in some street/strip cars have tank warmers which works tha same way without heating the nice cold air

also you have the hotspot on the bottom of the inlet manifold where it bolts to the exhaust manifold. this aids atomization.

going to extractors makes the inlet manifold run cooler, making for longer warmups and more power.

maybe you need to adjust your choke teddy??? have a look in your workshop manual, there is probably a section on setting the choke up properly.

Yes, i will have to do that.

I just know, i have to let it idol at about 400 RPM (splutter, splutter, miss a beat, fart, splutter... etc) - eventually gets warm & the revs stay at about 1,000.. but if i touch that throttle within 30 seconds of the car starting... *Stops*

Fuel injection fixes that

I turn the key and give it a little rev then drive as if its warm.

most mornings lately have been around the -1 and I havent had a problem :D

just thought id add that as i havent added anything for awhile.

i actually made a device on the weekend that makes my life easier...

got a spar bonnet release cable, zip tied it very close to the air cleaner, and then put the metal end into the air cleaner summer winter lever...

So now inside the cabin - i push the metal wire in, and it pushes the air cleaner control arm thingie into the winter position (takes air from exhaust) - then pull it out again, puts it back to stock position

i will call it MIMWD - (Manual Inlet Manifold Warming Device) :D ! hehehehe
