TOYOTA

 

The first product from Toyota's new “hot shop”, the Aurion TRD, arrives in August with a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 with sports manners and a load of plastic kit. Also in August is the generational change for Kluger with the SUV getting a substantial facelift and the 3.5-litre V6 from the Aurion. November brings the Landcruiser 200 Series and a TRD version of the HiLux.

Still no official statement of power output though. I want to know how much the Hilux TRD will make too.

Ditto on the hilux... looking forward to seeing what they do with that engine... I think there's plenty of potential there...

Don't expect too much. My guess would be that the Aurion will have about 250kW so it's ready to take on the next XR6 Turbo (expected to have about 260-270kW. I figure the TRD Aurion will have about 400Nm, as any more would be pushing the limits of FWD & traction control. The Hilux TRD will be more focused on torque, so I'd expect to see the same sort of 250kW (even with the larger capacity engine), but more like 450-500Nm of torque.

would love to see an AWD aurion. then it would really be a crowd pleaser.

All the parts are available in Japan. Toyota Australia just needs to take advantage of them.

AWD Camry is made here in australia, exported to the world.

Aurion is the same frame as a Camry.

I for one would like to see an AWD system in it, as I reckon 250kW in a FWD is a recipe for the scrub to look like the Aurion colour chart.

One of the options for the old Precision Drive Team I understand came from Toyota and the above H word was used with the above TLA (three lette acronym), sadly nothing ever came about.

New Kluger... Y bother they only come in auto n they suck who put Traction control in a offroadish car, it just gets u boged (it onli happened once, stupid work car)

Toyota/TRD have stated on their website that it will have at least 235kW, but with SS Commodores available for $45,000 with 270kW, and the Falcon XR6 Turbo for $44,000 with 245kW (rumoured to be 270kW on the next model), Toyota are going to have to have some serious grunt. And when you realise that the Aurion Sportivo ZR6 is $42,500 with just 200kW, you would think that the TRD version would come a lot closer to $50,000. And to be even slightly competitive (in both sales and performance) with the XR6 Turbo and the SS, it will have to crack 250kW.

Yea but who really cares there rwd aurion is front diff class, wonder how well that supercharger could be transplanted onto a 4agze

It's an Eaton supercharger rebadged as a TRD. It can be done, but wouldn't be a direct bolt-on.

even if the Aurion lacks a few KW and is fwd only, it will still have one major advantage over the competition...

 

 

RELIABILITY :jamie:

FWD + Toyota reliability vs. RWD + problems with a car under warranty. There aren't issues with the majority of Falcons - the vehicle pictured must've just been a lemon. I think most people would overlook minor issues in favour of the XR6 anyway. Plus it's most likely going to be cheaper than the TRD Aurion. If the Aurion were released with AWD and a 250+kW supercharged V6, all for under $50,000, Toyota would sell a heap. Unfortunately that won't be the case though.
