My Ke26

Hey Guys/Girls, new here so thought i'd introduce myself. My name is Mic, never really posted on here but am a regular on Toymods. Here is my new ride(a long story to go with it!)

Well nearly 1.5 years ago, since I sold my Ke25 and since then been driving my R31 Silhouette. But something was missing. Just something about the R31 that wasn't there for me! Then i figured it out! I was missing the love of a Classic Corolla! So the search began November last year!

One day while i was working at my old work, i saw a very nice Ke26 drive past me and go to the workshop up the street. So finally getting the courage to go talk to the mechanic who was working on it, i went up there and had a chat with him. The mechanic told me he had been servicing the car for the past 17yrs!! And an elderly couple owned it. SO i left my details with him to pass on to the owners, then the next day i get a call from the gentlemen who owned the Ke26. We had a chat and talked about the corolla for ages! He had bought it off his father-in law(who bought the car brand new) and had been driving it ever since. He said he was thinking about selling next year! ANd i would be the on the top of the list to sell it to! So i left it at that.

At the beginning of this year i went away for a family trip overseas for a month. Then when i got back i decided to get in contact with the gentlemen who owned the ke26 again to see if he was still going to sell. So as before he said he would sell this year and i would be the top of the list. But he had put a rough date on it, well at least a month where he would sell it! July/August. So the only thing to do was wait!

About 1 month ago i got a small inheritance sum from my Nan who passed earlier this year. So before she passed she told me about the inheritance and she said buy whatever you want as long as it makes you happy! So i had a good think about it and decided to buy a rolla! Then i said to myself if this guy is willing to sell the ke26 soon i have the money. So i went and had another chat about it and same story once again. But the car was up the mechanics getting the drums done. So he said to me when August comes around he'll give me a call about it. And if i wanted to go check out the rolla at the workshop i could. Went up to the workshop and it was prtty clean for a 33 yr old daily!

Me being impatient couldn't wait that long so i looked out for another rolla! Then Bardin(Bananaman) gives me a buzz saying he got offered this Ke20 with 4agze in pieces. He got me a phone number and last week i went to check it out. The guy just wanted to get rid of it so i offered him an amount which he accepted. I put a deposit down and agreed that i could pick it up in 2 weeks when he gets back from the snow! Since then been excited to pick it up and get back into the corolla family, mainly KEXX family!

Then out of the blue, i got a phone call this morning and it was the Gents Daughter who owned the Ke26. She said the time has come to pass on the Ke26 and they wanted to sell it to me! I went up there before and she told me how the brakes aren't working and a few other bits and pieces. So i offered them $700, which they accepted! SO know i have got a Ke26 and on Saturday i pick up the ke20! I have gone from no corollas for the past year and a half, to 2 in one week!

Thats my long story about persistance and sorry for the 5 minutes you just wasted !

SO here it is:

Model - Toyota Corolla Ke26

Year - 08/1974

Engine - 3K-H

Transmission - Manual 4 Speed

Colour - White

Interior - Black

Suspension - Stock

Wheels - Stock

Other - Not much, pretty standard! Few dings and bit of surface rust. Pretty average paint in some places, but can't complain for a 33yr old car which has been a daily its whole life!

Plans - Restore the old girl.

As for the Ke20, here are the details:

KE20 was stripped due to rust destroying most of chasis rails and not being able to save it!

Cheers

Mic

i know exactly what you mean about missing the rolla love :P i was car-less since late 2004, after driving a KE70 which had been in the family since new, which i promptly destroyed over the course of 13 months (another story) around november '06 my boss was sick of his el xr6 clogging up his front lawn, so i bought it cheap, managing to sell it 6 months later...then within 2 weeks of getting rid of it, i found myself with a ke55 coupe and a ke20.

very nice acquisitions, can't wait to see more of the 20 :D

  • 1 month later...

OK well sorry for not updating this! Well a lot of things have moved since i last posted!!

- Bought a 4agze motor, missing manifolds and stuff but didn't matter!

- So i Put gze motor and t50 together, bolted the mounts on and manifolds to have a test fit in engine bay!

http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image000ps5.jpg

http://img463.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image002mo4.jpg

- Organised to get my old suspenion and brake setup back from my ke25! Also interior from that as well! It is:

Ta22 struts

Pintara Cross Drilled and vented discs

Commodore Calipers

KYB inserts

Corona Springs

and the interior is the Deluxe Ke25 stuff, black in colour!

- Found out the wiring in the 20 is for a LINKs ECU, so took all the loom out and now decided to go in microtech direction.

- Degreased the 20's engine bay and gave a fresh coat of paint in there. Came out better than expected! ;)

- Re-rego'd the wagz. Took off the ratty seat covers and discovered the black originals look awesome! only 1 tear in drivers seat but other than that they are great!

- Put a stereo in the wagz as well. GOt a bit boring with AM radio!

- Sold my skyline, so now down to 2 cars! Finally!

- Tomorrow going to get all the stuff for the gze motor, ie water pump, timing belt, Clutch, get flywheel machined, new belts etc! and also ordering the microtech LT10s with Handset.

So i have been a busy guy!! Well let you know how i go with the rest of it!

Cheers
