Welcome to torque-hole central. Using a bike engine in a car only works if you lose about 3-400kg of weight from the car. Plus, it would need to be mid/rear mounted or have a huge-ass chain drive

 

Out of curiousity, which uni are you doing SAE for, and how come you're sticking with a 4cylinder? Most teams (including us, after 4 years with the CBR600) are moving to singles these days

Try and find a 3.0L Brabham Formula 1 version, doubt you would though ;)

 

Were they not an oldsmobile v8? Thats what my old boss told me when he was making the pistons at the repco f1 programe

but i may be wrong. 1. light 2. powerfull, good idea but may screw the budget just a little.

I`ve heard customers spending 30k plus just rebuilding these things. great engine in 2.5ltr, 3ltr and 3.5ltr.

 

if we are just dreaming here what about a scat v4 motor same as a sb chev just half of it. they run all chev parts and make great power in class buggy racing.

 

2.6l eh there is a guy in vic that has a genuine pw turbo sigma makes around 230rwkw on straight LPG great economy and huge amounts of power. any turbo engine on gas straight away makes it different just a thought.

The Rover V8 is essentially the Buick/Oldsmobile 215ci V8, just they sold the tooling to Rover when the useful life of the engine in the US ran out.

 

The Repco engine was destroked to 3L, plus it was SOHC too, but apart from that it is derived from the Rover/215

Newcastle. Was heavily involved back in 2005, a little bit in '06 and this year too. We're going 600 KTM single this year, most other teams that run singles use 450s (so should give us some advantage)

 

If I had to use a 600 inline 4 bike engine, the R6 would be the one to use though, UQ from a few years back had it and it sounded tits, they won the acceleration event too.

ahahahha that it does my friend that it does, iv only been involved with SAE this year, and from what i know we didnt do to well back in 05'.....skipped 06' due to lack of experience (all first years)....and we've finally got a rolling chassis for this years competation *yay*

 

the problem with the 05 car was that the knob who designed the intake sat the injectors at the top of the plenum and due to it being turbo'd once it came on boost, the first 2 cylinders would run super lean and the last 2 ran super rich....that and the brakes didnt work lol
