just quietly id prolly use the proper oil for it from toyota, cheap fix now could mean expensive fix later....

 

My engine scince it was new (only 20000ks ago now ;) ) has been using the best synthetic oils available, usually at 90 buks or more for 5 litres...

 

The fact that in a bore scope look it still looked brand new in each of the cylinders when i had it inspected when i bought it is testament to the fact that good oils are a must, this engine has hit redline daily for all of that 20 thou ks and it still looks new.

 

if you yeally want t use something else look on twincam.org for threads concerning what you need to use.

The toyota oil for the superchargers is something like $50 for a tiny little bottle

if its enough to fill the supercharger thats a good price by me ;)

 

you pay for good uality oils, your stuff never breaks. :P

I ran my old rattly supercharger for over 5 years without ever checking the oil, and it was working exactly the same as the day I got it, the bearings were a tiny bit noisier, that is all....so I would say $50 to fill it once with oil is f@$kin expensive

well i might see what toyota say then. don't wana have to do any repairs on it for stupid mistakes!

I'm not sure that Toyota will even stock it. At least not until they release the Aurion with the supercharged 3.5L V6. But even then they might just get a TRD branded oil and double the price again!

 

Ella - you can hardly say that Castrol is a cheap brand. So long as you buy an oil with the correct specifications, it'll be fine, but do stick to the good brands.

wasfishing - I was planning on giving you directions, but couldn't remember from the top of my head and I don't have my car nearby to access. Can't see the dipstick in imnost's picture either, but maybe I'm blind this late at night.

 

imnost - Toyota claimed 165hp for the silvertop 20v and 170hp for the blacktop. Supposedly both of these figures are bullshit, and the silvertop makes more like 145hp, and the blacktop is about 150hp. They're still a very cool engine, and I'd love to build a KE30 two door with one as a proper project car. Will you be bringing one up from interstate, or buying the one I've mentioned previously (Lenny's)?

If you haven't bought it yet... just go for a 16v!!! The money you save can then be spent on cams or the like. Only thing the 20v offers is the throttle bodies... and if you go aftermarket ECU they can be modified to fit. 20V is more of a bitch to fit though.

That's just my opinion anyway! Everyone always seems to get caught up going "omg bro 5 valves each cylinder!" but they aren't that much better than the 16v... and the 16v has better/more aftermarket parts!

 

Or fark it both, and get a GZE! :D

The 4A-GZE rocks! It's got forged pistons standard, stronger conrods, and is dying to be turned into a 4A-GTE. Or you could ditch the supercharger and build up a wicked NA motor using wild cams, deck the block for more compression (or go for different pistons), and go quad throttles. Could be very nice.
