Needs to be in a battery box, but I don't think it has to be completely sealed.

 

As for the gauge of wire, he'd make sure it's high quality (very thick) stuff, but it'll be a case of whatever he can get his hands on.

To easy, just got to get room in the boot :D

 

Also as for the mounting. does it have to bolted through the floor of the car, or would a false floor suffice? Also would the box be needed to be vented to the outside

Wouldn't have a clue - I've never tried to find out because I've never planned to rear mount a battery in a road registered car.
