Key Rust Spots ??

Hey all,

 

I am about to buy a ke15-30 2 door in the near future, and was wondering

where should i look for rust.

 

Are these cars renowned for rusting badly in a particular area ?

 

and

 

What places have you found to be the main culprits ?

Wheel arches, Sill panels, Radiator support panel, Around the front and rear windscreens, Spare tire well, Behind the rear bumper, Bottom of the rear wheel arches, Bottom of front 1/4 panels, Roof in the gutters, Around the boot seal, Top of the firewall.

 

Look where the vents are on the outside near the bonnet, Leafs tend to sit in there and cause more rust.

KE2x: Inside edge of chassis rails just as after they go under the firewall. Also lower front guards (and behind), aft of rear wheel archs. My 25 has always had issues around the fuel cap.

 

KE3x: As above per AE70's post. ^^^^^^^^^ The buggers came out of the factory with it.

1 at seam over rear wheel archs.

2 under boot rubber seal.

3 rear quater panels at bottom

4 bottom of front gaurds

5 around fuel filler

6 around mirrors

Nearly every KE2x I've had has rusted along the entire RHS subframe. Leds to a big horizontal crack :locked:

 

Also the crossmember under the radiator and under the battery.

I will keep these in mind when buying, hopefully the one i find won't

have to much to be fixed, but i am sure some will turn up :locked:

Yes my ke10 has that.

Yes my ke10 has that.

 

So did my 20 till we plated and welded it :D Also had stress cracks either side of the crossmember running across the the subframe. don't think it liked getting airbourne :locked:
