Hey guys , i just had a silvertop engine installed in my ae92 and was wondering if you guys could help me out. when the car is warmed up and after driving it hard for a short period it starts to have a constant ticking noise which speeds up and slows down with the revs, should i be worried? and if so what can i do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

From reading various forums the problem sounds like the VVT solenoid.

Both if you can, but its usually just the pulley. Not cheap and very had to find in Australia. It usually doesnt effect performance at all when the pulley atarts ticking. Its a 100,000klm service item I believe, and its usually really noisy by then, so if its loud it can be a good guide as to the klms on your motor.

Thanks little red spirit :y: , that makes sense because the engine had about 80,000kms on it before it went in and we changed the timing belt seals and water pump i didn't even think to change the pulleys do you know where i may be able to find a solenoid because i can get toda cam pulleys if they would be a good upgrade

TODA pulleys are an excellent upgrade. That ticking is pretty much factory on all 20V

Well eventually your VVT may stop working, so probably better to replace it than not. I used to work with a jap mechanic, who did alot of performance stuff, and he always swore by TODA for 4AGE stuff

I also have the VVT Pulley problem, not that big of a problem till the VVT stops completely, happened to a mates silvertop, he wasnt impressed lol

hey how much did the conversion cost you??

 

coz I'm also looking at a 7AFE setup for my AE92

To have the car back on the road it cost about 3200 including the engine
