shadow Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Ive got a set of lovells springs in my ke70, and ive decided i'd really like it another inch lower. I'm under the impression i can just go to a suspension place and have the springs compressed. Is this true? If so, does it change the spring rate, ie make the springs harder? Or do they remain the same? Quote
Rollaboy2608 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Coil springs should never be reset, because to do that you would need to heat them, which causes severe stress to the metal, or cut them, which also causes stress to the metal, no matter what anyone tells you, cutting springs is bad, and we have had this debate many times. Heating springs is worse Quote
Sinate Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 So his only option in your book is for full blown custom coilovers? due to most aftermarket springs are around the same height Chop a coil off, your springs will be quite soft anyway. Will make them a bit harder Quote
shadow Posted December 11, 2007 Author Report Posted December 11, 2007 The car has already been lowered by about 2.5 inches and is fairly stiff- its been set up for club racing rather than looks, but i just really don't have the money for a new set of springs. Its all really balanced and works well at the moment and i don't want to upset the equilibrium too badly. Quote
coln72 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 If it works for you now, why go lower. It will stuff up your suspension settings and you will be slower. It happened to me when I went to low. Quote

Or do they remain the same? Sell the Lovells for $80. Order custom springs for $150. So a $70 Outlay for the correct height and stiffness. What will compressing and re-tempering your Lovells cost? More than $70 i'm thinking. I've had Compressed and retempered springs in my Rolla. Its completely legal and most spring shops will do it. I never had an issue with them. But most definately for peace of mind and most of all 'ease and accuracy', go with custom. Quote

shadow Posted December 14, 2007 Author Report Posted December 14, 2007 Good point kangaroosa. The springs have about 900km on them. If i thought anyone in the G.C or Bris area was interested i would sell them sometime soon and have some made up. Kills the sleeper image but I'm just over looking like a grandma! Quote
