Admittedly my car is a ke70, but i had mine roadworthied and registered (from unroadworthy and unregistered) with a 5k about two months ago. I can't give you the actual reason why, but I'm almost 100% sure its sweet. I even had the chick come out of the office and inspect my engine code and she just said 'oh, it must have had a new engine put in it at some time- your engine code is different to your vin' Still, check with the transport department.

You don't need a blue plate. I have a 5k in my Ke70, registered and roadworthy, no mod plate, no problem.
-
Start with a 5k block in the first place. Eliminates need for trial and error, sourcing issues etc, and gives you 1.5l capacity. I use cast hypotec pistons in my 5k and make an easy 135hp.

Thats a pretty wide-open question mate. Any big-ish city would have multiple mechanics who would know what they were doing with a 4k/5k. They've been used relatively widely as budget race engines. Depending on how much you can do yourself (or with your mates), what you spend will vary widely, but in my experience $3000 should get you a lot of engine. Read the FAQ on building a tough K motor, then decide how far you want to take it, and how much you can be bothered doing yourself. Repco or Bursons (ie bulk aftermarket engine part distributors) would be the best and cheapest places to buy parts as Toyota like to bend you over and have their way with you for genuine parts. Try ringing a race-engine-only workshop and get them to tell you who they would use- thats always worked for me.

You must have an unblemished licence? Wtf? Who has one of them? I'm a very careful driver, been driving 10 years with no accidents, and an ex-police officer, and I still don't have an unblemished licence. If thats true its f@$king stupid.

Hahaha, i waited so long to find something this clean. Ive had the money for a year and just been waiting for the right one. It sounds so tough. Lil' bit sluggish under 3000rpm, but up to 7500 it just hammers.

Howdy guys I thought i'd post a bit of information on my rolla. She's beautiful! I bought her from an older guy who's been racing for about 15 years. He used to race a datto 1600, sold it and then built this to replace it. It came with a build-up logbook with photo's, part numbers and all the specifications. Its running a 5k engine that has: - +.020 thou. cast hypotec pistons - king competition big end and main bearings - 308' wade camshaft - Precision solid lifters - Roll master dual timing chain - extended capacity sump with windage tray - lightened flywheel - Excedy sports clutch - 3k bigport head with modified ports and bowls - 38mm inlet valves and 31mm exhaust valves - crow valve springs - 12'' thermo fan - bosch 'lectronic ignition - match ported 4-1 headers - match ported inlet mainfold - twin 40mm dellotos - comp unifilter - tuned length ram tubes - carter fuel pump - 3/8'' fuel tank pick-ups - lovells springs and monroe gt shocks - 2.5'' zorst - uuuuugly celica rims :hmm: Makes about 135hp at the engine. :o Sounds hot. It hasnt got any stereo at the moment so thats high on the list of things to do, and then really the only other things i would like are some nicer wheels and some nicer front seats. Its pretty granny spec from the outside as you can see.
-
Good point kangaroosa. The springs have about 900km on them. If i thought anyone in the G.C or Bris area was interested i would sell them sometime soon and have some made up. Kills the sleeper image but I'm just over looking like a grandma!

74%. Valid lesson for life- i know less than i think i know.
-
The car has already been lowered by about 2.5 inches and is fairly stiff- its been set up for club racing rather than looks, but i just really don't have the money for a new set of springs. Its all really balanced and works well at the moment and i don't want to upset the equilibrium too badly.

Quick Question Bout Ke70 Diff And G/box
shadow replied to h1_roll4's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Pano front discs are bigger- not sure but i think they're same as adm sprinter front discs. Ive got a set to put on. -
Ive got a set of lovells springs in my ke70, and ive decided i'd really like it another inch lower. I'm under the impression i can just go to a suspension place and have the springs compressed. Is this true? If so, does it change the spring rate, ie make the springs harder? Or do they remain the same?
-
Yep, thats exactly what i mean- ie. looking to get the car as low and wide as possible. I was actually wondering if i would need to destroy the panels. Worth it though! The only ones ive seen are the 'universal' ones. Do they really work on any car no hassles, eg, a ke70, or is it better to try and find a particular brand for a particular model of car?
-
Hehe, :D granted, it may seem like an obvious question, but I'm not actually asking if you bolt them on. I'm asking where and how.
-
Bolt on flares. They look tuff. Are they legal in queensland? And exactly how are they mounted? Do you bolt them on somewhere above the wheel arch and then cut the metal underneath the flare away with a grinder or something? Or do you mount them flush with the bottom of the wheel arch?

Hey guys i bought a 91 sx hatch yesterday for a really good price, and everything is gun except the gearbox and clutch. From searching and reading i believe the gearbox is a C52 yes? Its pretty mushy and grinds a bit around 2nd and 3rd gear. What suggestions? Whats a gearbox rebuild or freshen up worth? Should i just buy a replacement and hope its in good nick? Ive got the spare money to spend a little on it, and i was going to have the flywheel lightened while the clutch is being replaced.

Ok, so the interior is absolutely spotless, really nice, and the engine is pretty gun for a 79' that looks pretty much untouched. Sounds like the fan bearing is gone, squeaking a fair bit, but other than that has almost no oil leakage, wasnt warmed up when i got there but it started first go. Unfortunately theres a fair bit of rust. Mostly its just the sort of stuff i'd sand back, rust kill and bog, but the left rear wheel arch at the bottom corner (bottom of the boot) has effectively desintegrated - as in would need the entire corner rebuilt. I'm assuming this is a big job, but can it be done cheap and easy, like with fibreglass, or does it need to be done professionally an would it be expensive? I realise thats a fairly general question.

I'm going to look at a ke55 tomorrow afternoon. Apparently it has 100,000km and an imaculate interior, owned by old couple. Where do these rust? What to look for? Its got a 5 speed and 4k in too- What nasty noises to listen for? Any help appreciated.

This looks sick. Got a rollaclub sticker on it. Who's is it? Got engineering and roadworthy? http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminfo/adnu...subs_Used+Cars_
-
Yeah sweet, that doesnt look as easy as i thought it would be, but looks do-able. Thanks.
-
Needs a timing belt cover for roadworthy.

Short bumpers on ke70s look hot as. Theres not much info around though on how to do it. Can someone explain exactly what they did? Did you just take it off and trim with a grinder? How do you alter the mounting brackets? I'm not really that keen on just zip-tieing the bumpers on, if only because it would probably vibrate and flog around.

Ive never seen a 4age with 500+hp either, thats not what i said. And i havent got anything against drags- love em'. They're great to watch, but the simple truth is that 99.9% of ordinary people don't have the time or money to own one.
-
Sure massive man hours- in the main by mechanics who are being paid to do it. The beauty of most of the people and cars on this site is that people (most of the time) understand something about their car and either do the work themselves or take the time to understand what is being done by the mechanic, not just drive up to some workshop with a wad of money in their pocket. Hehe, wad. Furthermore, what is the farking point of a 500+hp corolla with boost that doesnt come on until 5000rpm? It must be sick on a drag strip and when you're telling your mates about it, but i bet a well tuned 4age or similar that cost a quarter of the other one would be heaps more fun day to day. f@$k, give me worked 4k that i can blow up and replace over that chromed shit any day. I can only afford one car and i wanna enjoy it.

If you alter the rails or change them you've got to get it engineered. Make sure the metal you use is thick enough and any changes you make don't weaken it too much, and then take it and get it mod plated.
