Des Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Hey Hey, I put my 4age back together and the fans were working fine and now they stay on, Ive unplugged the temp sender wire and cleaned it and also removed and cleaned the sensor itself but still wont turn off. Is my sensor shot ? and can some one give me a part number for a new one ? I think its the sensor that goes into the thermostat housing. Des  Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 When the fan relay becomes faulty the fan(s) stay on, Its a toyota thing to prevent your motor from cooking.. Give the fan relay a good whack and see if it stops, If so replace the relay and go from there.. Quote
Des Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 Pulled it out and gave it a few taps on the concrete and they still come on. There 2 more relays for air air con fan 1 and air con fan 2, No 2 has a black relay and the others are the round metal type. Quote
Des Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Shotty temp switch, Located on the external thermostat housing. Quote
Des Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 Replaced the switch today and they wont come on at all with it plugged in. Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 are you sure your getting it hot enough for the fans to turn on? to test i usually plug the front of the radiator with cardboard or cloth or something so it gets no airflow.. just be careful it doesnt overheat. is the new switch new or a wrecker job? is it plugged in properly? getting power to the fans? if you unplug the sender do the fans come back on? MRMOPARMAN Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 (edited) hmm thats weird. sounds like either a dodgey/wrong sensor or the cooling system has airlocks in it Edited January 15, 2008 by MRMOPARMAN Quote
Trev Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Old one came on just over half when it was working. Just over half or between half and 3/4, Both my AE82's come on more near the 3/4, They sit on 1/4 on hi-way driving and stop start cold day driving any other time its near halfway, The thermo hardly ever comes on in them. Des Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 hmm thats weird. sounds like either a dodgey/wrong sensor or the cooling system has airlocks in it Cooling system is getting flushed tomorrow arvo and replaced with Toyota red coolant so if any air pockets are there they will be gone. Went out and had a tinker with the wiring around the plug and where it goes into the loom and now it works. Quote
