demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Yay, car is finished. Looks like cat converter is also well on it's way out, the guy recons it's really blocked up... Not so good  Quote
irokin Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 bah sif run a cat  wheres that thread with the poll on how long your exhaust would last :) Ima dig it up Quote
demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Author Report Posted November 15, 2004 Virtually all of you lost that poll, cause I think all of you thought it would fall apart at Queensland Challenge... And yes, when was the last time you checked how much the fine is for not running a cat? I think I'll just replace mine, thanks. Quote
demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Author Report Posted November 15, 2004 Haha, looks like cat is most probably stuffed, yay. Muffler was replaced, and front section of the exhaust was rewelded because the welds had actually cracked and broken, so looks like I had exhaust leaks galore... Quote
trdcamrypride Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 (edited) yeah it is illegal to not have a cat from 1989 or something like that if i remember right. *Spelling Fairy* Edited November 15, 2004 by Medicine_Man Quote
mumblezzz Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 86 I beleive when all new cars had to be unleaded. Quote
irokin Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Nah the ruling is. If the engine runs unleaded as standard it has to run a cat. I know that. But even when I change to an unleaded motor, I'll be buggered if I'm gonna f@$k around with my exhaust putting in a big hunk of crap. Quote
demuire Posted November 15, 2004 Author Report Posted November 15, 2004 Just hope you don't get caught then. And if you do, don't be too shocked when you find out how much the fine is. Quote
mumblezzz Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Just say it runs on super and pray they don't have a sniffer. Quote
Xany Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 ben: you said that any STANDARD engine that runs unleaded has to have a cat installed.... what about engines that have been modifed to run on unleaded.... like my 5k would have been standard to run super.....but i run 98 unleaded in it because of the high compression. whats the go ?????? Quote
demuire Posted November 16, 2004 Author Report Posted November 16, 2004 AFAIK if your engine came as factory running unleaded (ie 4AGE), then you have to run a cat. If you run unleaded in an engine that originally ran leaded (ie 4K) I don't think you have to have one. Quote
irokin Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 yup that is correct. If its modified that doesnt change anything. Same as if I took say a 4A-GE and modified it to run leaded (god knows why) Id have to run a Cat that would most probably be f@$ked in about a 1000km... Quote
avalonea Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 just gut it . leave the shell there if you get promted . say your car had a problem and was runing abnormaly rich. oh how do i know this works ? because its happend to 3 people i know, also, the fine at a maxum for not haveing one is decent, but if its not working like it should thats another matter :) but hey . if you can justify spending a few hundred bux to put a restriction in your zaust . go for it :fuzz: `josh Quote
demuire Posted November 16, 2004 Author Report Posted November 16, 2004 Fine for not having one is decent, fine for one that's not working due to failure, don't even know if there is one. Fine for having one that's been gutted (or modified to not work) is the same as not having one at all. And all that is required to check if it's been gutted is a temperature probe. Most high flow cats put virtually no restriction on your exhaust. If you modified your 4AGE to run leaded for whatever reason you won't get it engineered anyway because whatever the modifications are, it still has to comply with it's original emmisions standards. No, I know. I was simply using it as an example Quote
