Des Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hey Hey, The dude at work builds race engines for some boats on the side, At the moment he is building a mild 253 for a stock class boat which means crank mods only. But this was a previous motor in the unlimited N/A class. 366 Chev. Loads of head work. JE pistons. Carillo rods. Custom stroker crank. Titanium valves Methanol mechanical injection. 16:1 Compression ratio 800hp - 850hp. Bad tune = bye bye rods, valves, pistons, crank, sump, block and $15,000+. Quote
billyrock Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) ouch thats like what my zz-r 150 motorbike did when it leaned out at 12,000RPM just as it hit 12PSI Edited February 21, 2008 by billyrock Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 :P man, it would take some effort to do that to a carillo! i know alot of people who don't bother to get a proper tune, then wonder why this happens. Quote

Barrel valve decided to play games. Quote
Doogs Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Wow, That would have been fun to be near! (as long as your not within shrapnel range) Quote

Des Posted February 21, 2008 Author Report Posted February 21, 2008 This is what i was told. I boat a few years ago was doing 110mph and the propeller broke and locked up causing the boat to flip, Driver was killed when he hit the water and there was a massive investigation as to why the boat flipped. philbey Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Ouch. given that those race boats only have half a prop and a keel in the water at full pace, I can understand how they flip when the prop stops... Quote

I remember hearing about that boat. I had a SBC drag car piston in the other week that we had made. It looked pretty much the same as that except the rod was bent really bad but not broken. I`ll have to dig up my old phone and get the photo. stu. Quote

Been reading some books about methanol mechanical injection *drool*. I will also get some pics of a melted titanium valve. Quote
philbey Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 .....except the rod was bent really bad but not broken. Now thats a sign of a quality rod - bending! Quote
