demuire Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Hmm, I dunno, more than a few people have mentioned that the RWD factory headers on the 4AGE are actually very good, including Bill Sherwood... Quote
demuire Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm not using redtop exhaust manifolds, I'm using RWD exhaust manifolds. Two rather completely designs. Of course, I'm only going by what I've been told, so I could well be wrong. Extractors, exhaust and pod are obvious first starts to mods, but only if that's where the problem is to start. I was told the extractors were fine, so I got the exhaust and pod. And no, I've found about 4 different kinds of aftermarket extractors for RWD 4AGE engines, and I've never found a set that would fit in a KE35. 3 of those sets fit in the actual engine bay, but none would clear the idler arm properly. If you run a jap bellhousing (like Rollie did) then you can heat and bend the extractors to *just* clear the idler arm and fry your starter motor instead, but I'm running an oz bellhousing. Quote
Super Jamie Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 i believe you about the drysump, i didn't look into it much, you've obviously done more work than i :P shit that's pricey and fookie's right, factory 4ag exhaust manifold is good for 200hp, very little gain to be had replacing it with expensive extractors. this IS toyota we're talking about mate, their shit is good from the factory :) Quote
demuire Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 (edited) Yes, and no I didn't make 200hp. I believe a "redcliffe-dyno-reading" would be about 95hp atw. And where did you hear that 200hp is "easy" for any 4AGE? 150hp maybe, but 200hp is a pretty big number. Not impossible, but not all that easy either. Edited January 11, 2005 by demuire Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 what u been smoking nick? all stock 4age manifolds are very good. certainly enought to handle 180 odd hp even more. the black top 20v ones are the best. but even the old ae82 ones are fine for 180ish. you have to do serious mods to even think about replacing them. as for the rwd, the TRD ones are made up from the stock ones apparantly Quote
mumblezzz Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 My engine already came with sexy stainless 4-1 extractors. Sure stock ones might be good for 200hp but a set of nice bling tubular extractors look a lot sexier than stocko cast jobs. Quote
Teddy Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 (edited) Id love to build a 4ag motor for mine that has a power to weight ratio of 1 RW/KW to every 1KG of car Hehehehehhehehehehe Dreaming is free, and endless possibilites :P Edited January 11, 2005 by Teddy Quote
