Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 New clutch arrived yesterday... Four puck ceramic with a sprung centre. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 You buy them off the shelf or get them custom made? Quote
Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 I understand you can buy similar off the shelf, but this one's a custom jobbie. I can organize one if you like..... Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Just contemplating what I should do in the way of a clutch for my 4AGE, how nasty is the price tag for a custom heavy duty clutch like yours? Quote
irokin Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Id like to know how it goes. How bitey it is caws I'm looking for a nice bitey clutch. Something that'll lockup when you dump it at 5000rpm. and how many $$$$ Quote
Super Jamie Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 don't run a button clutch on the street, it's not good, you'll either be doing burnouts everywhere, or you'll lunch it within a couple of months Quote
Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 I disagree. That's where the sprung centre makes a difference. It lets it have a bit of "give" that you wouldn't normally have. I already have one in the Dwarf, and it's great (cute little 3 puck). You can get away with the sprung centre unless ou have monster HP. Where the benefit is, is that once the clutch has taken up, you have virtually no clutch slip. It's hard to explain. Full buttons, like the one in Datgirl's 1600, are piggish, and take some getting use to, but they're not as bad as everyone thinks. Justin, come and try mine when it's going, and see what you think... R Quote
Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 At a guess, $300 +, but you'll wear out the flywheel before the clutch! :) Quote
Super Jamie Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 perhaps that's where we went wrong. and it was behind a 380hp 2L :) Quote
Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 You're right, that kind of stick, you're likely to tear the guts out of a sprung one. I consider them to be good for Justin or Ben's purposes though. Not particularly cheap, but you get what you pay for. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 In that case I might get in touch with you when it comes time to get hold of the clutch.. Quote
Super Jamie Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 my clutch still shudders hey, and it's just a daikin heavy duty organic, nice to have money to burn :) Quote
Redwarf Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 If it's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.:) Quote
irokin Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 don't run a button clutch on the street, it's not good, you'll either be doing burnouts everywhere, or you'll lunch it within a couple of months not planning to run the celica on the street in about a months time :) For a bitey street clutch Id be running a carbon clutch over an organic anyday. Carbons sticky up as they get hot  Quote
