So you want cheap, you want good sound, and you want MP3. Not asking much are you?

I'd stay away from Sony, but that's just my personal opinion.

For that budget have a look at what JVC have to offer.

JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion

stay away from all supercheap stuff unless it has those brand names, i've been noticing they have been getting quite a few more brands into their stores.

if you want mp3 and only have $200, as nick said you'd be wanting to have a look in cashies.....but most of them don't come with the warranty if you install it yourself.

however, if you spend just a little more.....for $250 you could prolly get the base model of the pioneer range in MP3 players, Brand new, with a 1 year warranty.

and if you don't have the extra $50......tell whoever is giving you the gift to just give you the money and save up and then buy it.....cause anything you buy that is cheap in car audio will sound crap...and then when you can actually afford the good stuff you'll wonder why you didnt just buy it in the first place....i know from experience.

There will probably be a better model out by the time you get your car on the road, wait till then to buy it, I made the mistake of buying mine just before the mp3 units came out, spewing now, i'd love to be able to afford an mp3 unit.. Save your pennies or spend it where it counts!

cheap and nasty. Avoid at all costs.... $200 should get you a basic brand name head deck. Look out for Brisbane Car Sound (or strathfield/whateverthef@$ktheywannacallthemselvesnow), wow and JB etc specials. You can usually find "last years" model going for HEAPS less than RRP. I picked up a diecent amp for 50% off. Keep your eyes and ears open.
