soda blasting may be the bet, not sure if its rough enough to strip the shit off, but sand blasting would be too harsh.

then just a good polish and a protective coat.

if not, medicine man painted his. looked very good, but he did it properly.

most people do it out of a rattle can and in 6 months its f@$ked and looks worse than it started and is just harder to get back to a nice standard

Kinda been a bit slow in doing this but here goes.

Got a few CSX rims finally and first step I needed to badly clean them up. Pics below of how they looked:

The above wheel was an average one. I got 3 that night. One was average, bad, then a ok one.

So What I did is decided to stick with the original color lay out on them. First I glass bead blasted them and then painted a yellow ring on it where the red would of normally gone. Pic Below is the result:

Notice in a few spots flecs of original Toyota paint. Hard stuff to move. But pick it off with a knife and it cracks off in chunks.

Then I proceded to paint inbetween the spokes gloss black. This was to make the shape of the spokes more vibrant. After a few coats of black as the cast ally made the paint look thin and it kinda soaked in. I coated the rims with 7 coats of clear.

Pics of final product to come.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys.

And Simon 6 hours you are god. I started dong what I was doing sl matt glass bead spokes, black spaces, yellow ring...Then I started a polished outer rim on one PORN man were hot I got half a wheel done in about 1hr. Got the shits..LOL as I doa lot of polishing and lapping at work so on the weekend felt like I was working to much..LOL Just had Jagermeister with me. I started at 80 grit then 180 then 320 then 800 then 1200 hen a buff. Just don't have patience or time. BUT MAN were they HOT. So I really really like your blue rims.

But how did you polish your rims? What grits type of buff wheel hand or like a dremmel etc?

But I noticed if you don't blast the rims and pick the paint off by hand the rims have a polished machine surface from making them so then a quick wipe over and there all ready polished. So if your keen I recon paint stripper would be better then blasting. Might try that on a spare one I will have.

Also wanna polish my outer part of the rims Xany??LOL

But got a pic of the rim one finished with the black on my KE30 other day. I LIKE..;) Will do job. Half broke my camera so pic below is dodgey BUT you get the idea. Looks MUCH MUCH better in person.
