September 15, 200818 yr comment_275148 There's a site on the net somewhere (can't remember exactly, and can't be bothered searching) that shows you how you can do a pretty good cheap-arse paint job using rust-paint and high-density foam rollers, for the fraction of the cost of a spray job. Here's that website, ROLL YOUR CAR http://rollyourcar.com/default.aspx Not my cuppa tea but i suppose it would be ok for a cheap paint job under $100 bucks. :y: Report

September 17, 200818 yr Author comment_275533 Shit the paint jobs look decent on that website you wouldnt think they would do an alright job. Ive got spray gun and crap but no booth so i might try a panel with spray gun and one with roller see what goes alright. Report

September 17, 200818 yr comment_275607 I'm yet to see one! I 2nd this. Doing a spray job is not that difficult as others have said. It is all in the method and takes patience. Like anything car related problems pop up and things don't always go to plan, so don't try and rush it. If you have a mate who can lend a hand or at least someone to give you advice then that would be a bonus. Do a bit of reading around about technique etc, there is a fair bit of info out there on the net. Good Luck Report
September 17, 200818 yr comment_275642 Do it your self! Sure it may or may not turn out 100% BUT you can rub runs and nibs out AND most importantly, you'll get experience for your next spray job ;) Do a little research and do a few practice runs first. Don't be shy :) Report
September 17, 200818 yr comment_275700 I'm back with more pics. practice is important, as others have said. i had a practice on some scrap sheet metal. if you prime your car before you put the top coat on, this is a good time to practice. the setup of the gun is very important, this is where most people go wrong. (you will get runs or orange peel if you are not careful) heres more pics. it looks really rough after ya sand it Report
September 17, 200818 yr comment_275703 the last pic of the last reply was the first priming coat. (same colour made it hard) heres more sorry About crap photos, they were taken on a mobile phone Report

September 18, 200818 yr Author comment_275814 Yeh ive decided to give it a go my self and just reasearch lots and maybe get some advice some people who have done it themelves when i get around to doin it. Just for now i have sanded down my bonnet and just about to prime it. i might just give that a gloss black job with spray cans now cos i can't be bothered because i will eventually sand the whole car. I was thinking green for a ke55? cheers for all the advice Report
September 18, 200818 yr Author comment_275815 ohh and forgot to add with sanding do i just lightly sand it down till the paints faded or is it best to get down to the bare steel? or only down to bare steel for the rusted bits? Report

Once you have gone to the effort of preping it all up you may as well get your hands on a spray gun and do it right. Spraying it yourself with a gun is the best part, it is what you go to all the effort for with the prep work. Report

More here of the $50 paintjob, though I would imagine they would have used way more than that in sand paper. Edited September 18, 200818 yr by Felix Report
