toyota_ae71 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 hey, well ive decided to go electric fuel pump on the 4k, as most of you no the 4k runs on around 3psi fuel pressure, kind of a stupid question :no2: but if i bought a 4-7psi fuel pump could i just put a rugulator in so i could run 3psi?? Thanks a heap Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 id think it would run fine with a 7psi pump... surely the carby only pulls the amount it needs at any given time? I'm putting a Electric pump in mine in next few days, i think its around 5-7psi. can't see why it would be a problem, i say go for it.. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Stocko asian carbs only like about 3-4psi. If you put too much pressure into one it will force open the needle and seat and it'll never run right. A small weber 32/36 etc will withstand much higher pressures on the needle and seat. What ever you use a fuel pressure regulator is always a good idea. :no2: Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 the pump I'm getting is 5PSI I'm pretty sure!!!. surely 1PSI more can't hurt? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Try and find out. A needle and seat is just like float systern in your toilet. If you have too much pressure, it will push the float down into the fuel bowl and leak excess fuel in. The other thing about regulators is the "regulate" fuel pressure, ie keep it contant. Will will find that fuel pressure and flow can fluctuate throughout the rev range, fuel usage, and even vary from the amount of charge from the alterator!!! You should hear the Holley red in my mazda take off when you floor it! :no2: Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 what exactly is the pump? i used a facet pump and i never had any issues. Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 yeah its a facet 4-7 psi pump, and yes I'm running a 32/36 weber aswell Quote
chester_fb Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 how do you go about installing an electric fuel pump into a carby car? what is it wired into? coz the mechanical fuel pump runs off engine speed how does the electric one pick up this signal? and what happens to the old fuel pump......its not like u can take it off and leave a big hole there haha cheers Quote

toyota_ae71 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 so "blackrolla" is yours the 4-7 psi one?? and do you run a regulator?? Quote
coln72 Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) If its a facet type you wont have an issue. Ran them for years with single and twin asains. Just mount it some place where you wont hear it as they are noisy little bastards. Ran one under my parcel shelf for a while until it gave me the shits. In fact I still have one here if you want to come get it :sob: Edited August 27, 2008 by coln72 Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted August 28, 2008 Author Report Posted August 28, 2008 cheers mate, just brought a brand newy tho :sob:, so where did you end up running yours? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 You can use an "ON" power signal to run the pump, but also run it off a relay. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 what sorta regulator would you need? Quote
