ok, i havent heard about those points, all i hear is the bad points to it

but now thinking about it, its an alcohol isnt it, so more a cheaper version of running the race fuel which are mad e of what?

how much is the e85? and compared to 98 what is the difference

we need to know more

It IS drinking alcohol have a dive through wiki to get a crash course in fuels.

98 is 'pure' petrol, though petrol is made up of a load of stuff. E85 is 85% ethanol with 15% regular petrol (duno which ron it is though i doubt it would matter at those concentrations).

yea true yea, well might be a good racing fuel then to tune too

might be some good in this

Like I said, I will be dabbling with getting my car running on E85.

Don't know if its true or not, but i heard the stuff is under lock and key and the driver has to answer a few questions about the car and the fuel before anything.

RON will be specific to which servo you go to. Most E85's are comfortably in the 98 region, but if you look over the web there's a few running up to 105 RON, I'm guessing in the US.

Thats apparently the story. There was an article in Street Machine about it a while ago, you have to demonstrate that the car is tuned for it before they'll sell it. If you look on some muzza forums (ie Commodes) there was a bunch of people tuning for E85 sold by United in Sydney and seeing gains.

I have a scan of the Street Machine article, if the Mods are ok with it I will post it up.

Whoops i was referring to the base petrol :)

Bit of a catch 22 how do you demonstrate your cars tuned for it? Without putting it in and tuning it but, you need to tune it first to buy it :/

Peter Robinson strongly recommends the Liberty ethanol blend for KE's. He has found they burn cleaner and run a lot better.

That comes from a bloke with shed loads of experience with Corollas..

ahh ok sorry mate, just what id heard about it, don't listen to people who think they know stuff, ie mechanic friends then ahaha :)

still id prefer not to run ethanol in my car just because of the bad things ive heard about it

so yeah, good to know it wont harm my engine then too much if they bring it in though

^^ Does this mean you will believe and do most things people say??? Ethanol we use it in my dads 1929 chev which is fully restored and stock. No problems. I run it in my car no issues. E10 is fine wont harm it E85 but is different story. As if you hear all the bad and never good you don't get the full picture and well only affects you.

I HATE e10, gets terrible fuel economy and loss of power on my car. 95+ for me, everyday.

Read the posts above and below now. You must tune your car to run E10 properly. You will prob get worse economy and power when your tuned to petrol and not E10 mix.

I'm all for E10 in a way. More boost :D

BUT one thing the US is having troubles with ATM if you read a lot. There now snapping up food crops to make ethanol fuel. This is actually causing a problem in places where they can't buy food. In a national geographic a few editions ago they had a town n the USA fuel company use corn grown there to make fuel. EVERY CROP the town now imports corn and it is the biggest corn grower and now can't be obtained there stupid. So if we all go E10 there will have to be more farmers and crops or this will be more wide spread.

Also since it absorbs water out the air you also need to rust proof the inside of your fuel tank this is often looked past on old cars as there just a metal tank.

So if they make it Australia wide ill take it but ill run tests on my car tune it correctly etc and make it run properly on E10. But if lots get scared I see wreckers selling off old stuff cheap as chips and old 7K motors and 5K motors being sold for under $50..LOL Shall have a mean old rolla then on the cheap.

nah i don't believe everything people say, it just made sense as there is a servo local that uses"ethanol" in their fuels and it makes the engines run like shit, i reckon they put water in instead

but yea, i do listen to what people say and if i can't dispute it with eveidence who am i to say its not right?

Rust issues with tanks will be an issue initially, any existing rust will get removed by the Ethanol. Just run a filter straight after the tank and make it easy to change for the first few hundred kms.

Also, if you run a water separator on a recirculating fuel system, you will clean the moisture out of the tank as it's driven.

Every complains about power loss with the E10. My housemate used to complain about his falcon missing and having no bottom end on the stuff with poor fuel consumption. We filled it with a fresh tank of E10 and put it in learn mode. Now it idles smoothly and has better fuel economy than the 95 octane stuff. If you're running a carby you need to advance the base timing a touch, as ethanol burns slower and also have a fiddle with the idle screw to get it sounding right. You will run into problems with the plastic floats in the carby, but I bet that takes years to decay.

Non-adjustable ECU :D I can't really do much about the lack of tunability on my POS :)

this is why i run E10. i trust his years of experience with KE's. however it may be different with modern EFI engines.
