Johno Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I'm just about to start painting the whole car with 2 pack primer. I have prepped everything and fixed all rust. Spot primed bare spots and sanded the whole car down. I started cleaning the car with wax and silicon remover and its all going really well. On the rear right hand quarter panel I have a problem. I sanded the panel then washed it with wax and silicon remover, it still feels really waxy though. I splashed some water on it and it beaded off like the panel has just been waxed. So i sanded it again and got new clean rags and cleaned the panel again and same thing. Waxy surface. What could it be? Quote

Johno Posted February 22, 2009 Author Report Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) The quater panel has been repaired at some stage years ago, well before i had the car. They welded a new panel on which was blue. I'm not sure but i might have to strip it to bare metal but i realy don't want to :) Edited February 22, 2009 by Johno Quote
Kid-Ae Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Start stripping it to bare metal mate If it's still feeling waxy and beading, there probably isn't much else you can do? Goodluck mate Quote

Well i'm in luck sort of. By luck i mean i haven't stripped it yet. Been busy doing other stuff. So anyway.. I spoke to my panel beater today and told him the problem. He said just get some Acrylic Primer in a spray pack. Clean the panel up and give it a coat. If there is any contaminates on the surface, the primer will pick it up straight away. Fish eyes, silicon reaction or what ever. After its dry scratch test it with finger nail and if nothing happens, then paint the whole car with 2 pack primer and be done with it. Quote
Johno Posted February 28, 2009 Author Report Posted February 28, 2009 I am soooooooo glad i didn't strip the panel. I did what my panel beater said and there was no problems at all. I scratch tested it and its bonded like shit to a blanket. I'll scratch test it again tomorrow when the paint is harder but i think its all good :y: Quote
