I don't think anybody will come near you. Maybe for third party, you can hope....

As for your Dad insuring it in his name, and you a driver, be aware that if it can be proven that you are the primary driver, you may not be covered. ie: Fraud.

Insurance companies didn't get to be rich by being stupid.....

Anybody know what it'd cost me to 3rd party a turbo car?

17, p plater? Can I do it in dads name with me as a driver?

Pretty much agree with everything Redwarf said.

Insurance companies these days do investigate instances where a car is insured by a parent and you are placed as a driver for say 5% of the time. If they find that in fact you drove 100% of the time or even a little less you would be in big poo poo and probably have your claim denied and your insurance cancelled. Having a denied claim or insurance cancelled will probably render you not able to get insurance again or probably for the next 5 years.

Yes it sucks being male and under 25 but unfortunately the statistics prove that they are the worst drivers. I never had an accident when I was under 25 but I paid higher premiums for the fact that other people in my age bracket did.

Try Just Cars, they will be expensive so you need to think if you really NEED that car!! You could be paying over 2gs per year to insure a car that is only worth just twice that. Also their excesses are enough to make baby jesus cry!!

Other insurance companies won't touch you as you are too young. Shannons probably would if you were a couple of years older and have a good driving record but they don't insure ALL people under 25. It is a discretionary thing.

believe it or not but i found it to be the other way round for just cars, full comp was a little over $500 a year for full comp, and that was for a car with turbo conversion, ( was was looking onto buying and insuring a turbo corolla and i was under 25 at the time)

and Shannons wanted $2000 a year :)

mind you these quote were all a rough estimation at the time,

I pay 700 odd a year for full comprehensive on the Chaser, and thats through AAMI...

Mind you, I'm old and don't live in a ghetto.

Oh and I have a nice clean driving record :)

AAMI are the underwriters for Just Car I reckon.

I don't know if Shannons or JC will do 3rd fire and theft, I think I tried years ago and they didnt. I insured my Bluebird, engineered with CA18 turbo through Vigil Car Insurance, they seemed quite good, I paid about 800 a year. 21 years old.

I've had Just Car and Shannons. Both were about 50 bucks different at 1200-1300 bucks on a 1978 911, unmodified, under 25 driver with 7 years clean record (bar 3 speeding fines).

Shannons won't touch a dirty slammed messed up K-sev with falcon springs and a bad tune if that's what you're thinking. Just car will.

I went Just Car with my 911 because Shannons were going to need convincing I was an enthusiast. As soon as I was 25, I got rid of JC. Basically, I have no doubt that getting a claim paid out by JC would be a very trying thing. The excesses are massive, you're not covered forr theft without an approved car alarm installed (need receipts) and they had no option for monthly payment, agreed value or "weekend" use only.

Shannons offer heaps more options and chance to reduce rates, flexible premium options and basically I'm confident that a claim will be dealt with fairly. Just Car didn't give me that confidence.

As for price, good luck. I'd include it in your budget for your 5000 buck car if I were you, it will be a big chunk of that cost......

yes AAMI underwriters Just Cars

Just Cars do have 3rd party fire and theft now(or they have done for the past 3 years)

Just Cars and Shannons are both underwritten by AAMI, so there.

As Philbey said I hate to think what your chances would be when actually CLAIMING through Just Cars.

I can't speak highly enough about Shannons though, I had my Chaser insured with them and my Mazda 3. I sold my Chaser and they have let me have my Mazda 3 insured by them even though it is not considered to be an enthusiast vehicle. My Mazda recently got crunched by a truck, and they have been fantastic through the claims process. I guess it helps the fact that they are not paying for the claim as I was not at fault, but when the assessor came out he found things wrong with the car from the accident that even I had not noticed on inspection.

All insurance you get depends on a number of factors, driving experience, years you have had insurance without claiming, etc etc. Get insurance in your name as early in life as possible as it helps further down the track. By the time you are 22 you will have had 5 years experience and can probably argue your case for cheaper premiums, provided you havent had an accident during that time.

If you have had any driving offences or claims already, you are screwed dude. :)

It was tongue in cheek dude, take a chill pill :no2:

I was thinking about this topic on the way to work, and remembered I insured my first RX7 when I was 17 with Just Cars and the Fire and Theft was about $700.

Try them mate and let us know how you get on with it. :hmm:
