March 1, 200917 yr comment_323671 4K lifters are a smaller diameter than the 5K gear. You can use solid 202 holden lifters or get solid 5K lifters. There isn't much wrong with running the hydraulic gear, but you need to have the rocker towers machined down at the base to get it right. BTW a 3K head on a 5K dish motor will decompress the motor and be more suited for boost. 5K heads have the lowest dish volume of K heads I've heard of. I need to know about the lifters because the ones ive pulled out are worn on the bases and i don't know what the previous guy has put in there regarding lifter-rod-rocker combination. Its got a 3k bigport head with double springs so the revs its going to be doing will probably be too hard on hydraulic lifters, best be safe now while ive got the motor apart. Do you know where i can get the 5k solid lifters from? Cheers. Report

March 2, 200917 yr comment_323908 how many revs do you intend to pull - my hydrolic 5k would pull 8000rpm easy and kept doing it for years. It was nothing to see it constantly above 7500rpm (was fitted with a shift light) for an entire run. Report

Ella, does your car currently not rev past 6000, or do you choose not to rev it past that? I've never heard anyone on this site with anecdotal evidence of their hydraulic lifters actually causing problems. Only Colin and I recall some others pointing out they have never had issues with them. Seems to be a lot of theorists out there. I'm running hydros on mine, I'll keep it that way. I'll probably not rev past about 7k, although it seems to pull to 7 quite easily... (Tacho calibration?) Report

March 4, 200917 yr comment_324544 well i havent driven my car much as yet (no rego till tomorrow) but the cam feels like it wants more than the 6krpm its currently been turned to. the motors still alittle fresh, once ive swapped out the running in oil I'm going racing and drifting at QR and archy so itd be nice to have a few extra revs on board should i need to use them. ill see how i go when shes ready for it and report.
