nicistheshit Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 will this engine fit in my corolla? its a 81 te72, and i need some info on this engine, it sounds like it would be sweet to drop in my car, also I'm in america, and i heard this was a JDM or euro motor also? thanks!:D Quote
nicistheshit Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 so i guess it came out of a 78 ish celica gt 2000, uughh ha i want to drop it in Quote
machg Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Pretty sure it will physically fit in most corollas, doubt it will be a bolt in affair. At a minimum I'd say fabrication of engine and gearbox mounts and a hydraulic clutch conversion will be required. Quote
nicistheshit Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 what will i need to be able to put it in? like can a 22r transmission fit ? Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 (edited) te71 has a 3t-c right?? So you will already have an hydraulic cluth, Custom engine mounts and crossmember will need to be fabricated, most likely the same deal with the gearbox crossmember. Not to sure about the 22r gearbox but it could fit as its an R series engine. 18rgu, is it carbied or fuel injected?? they are a 2litre dohc 8 valve motor, fair bit of torque and fair amount of horsepower for what they are. Only thing i found bad about these motors are they are quite heavy, but thats the only bad thing i have heard. Apparently whoop a standard 4age in a striaght line.... but also remember a 4age will rev up to and over 8,000rpm. an 18rg will be getting ready to go bang at 7,500 tops!!!! dbr11k Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 top motors !! i have a mate who has dropped one in a hilux, completley worked cams, lightened every where and two solex side drafts.. it screams well into 8000 rpm.. sounds like a motor bike !!! apparently (don't qoute me on this) they have a similar head to some yamaha bike engines Quote

dbr11k Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 well there ya go. so he wasnt bullshittin me lol Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 well there ya go. so he wasnt bullshittin me lol They're not necessarily similar to a bike head, just designed by a company that also makes bikes and bike engines. Quote

Cheers should go on 18rg celica mounts man cause the ae71 needs t18 mounts to drop a 2tg into it, and 18rg's fit into ta22's with 2tc mounts so i can't see why you would need a custom engine cross member to drop it in or even engine mounts to make it work just try some celica mounts and go from there just try to get a celica t50 gearbox x-member to bolt up if not then custom is next my mate has and 18rg and it goes out to about 8 and a half without letting go all day Quote
nicistheshit Posted March 30, 2009 Author Report Posted March 30, 2009 thanks! ive been hearing alot about these and all i need is money to do the swap now =p Quote
the witzl Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 18RG's are a rear sump engine, so to fit to a TE72 you will need a front sump and pickup from a hilux 18R-C. Then you will need to make engine mounts. Transmission from a 22R will fit, but might need some massaging of the tranny tunnel (can't confirm if necessary tho). If you are looking for a cheap conversion, the 18RG is probably not for you. There are plenty of much more simple conversions for your TE72, like a 2TG, 4AGE, etc. Quote
7shades Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Well would ya look at that... The tractor engine god himself has finally made it to Rollaclub. :P Quote
