Harrycall Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I'm looking at putting XT130 Corona struts into my KE55 sprint/hillclimb coupe and want to put adjustable coilovers on them. Does anyone know where i can get the kits fom? Also will this conversion bolt up to my existing steering knuckles or will i need to change them? Thanks Quote
kangaroosa Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Pedders can do the job for you. Trade price for cutting the struts, supply and welding on the sleeves and supplying the springs was about $500. If you don't get trade price, expect to pay at least $1000. I think i retained my extisting KE30 steering arms. Quote
bLinded_ Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Does anyone know where i can get the kits fom? Ebay, aye jay pee ess, any other trader on ae86drivingclub. Also will this conversion bolt up to my existing steering knuckles or will i need to change them? If KE55 are the same as KE70 then yes. May be easier to just use the ones from the XT130 and do it in one go. Edited April 3, 2009 by bLinded_ Quote
clayton racing Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 i have done this conversion and had to enlarge the bolt holes in the ke55 steering link rods so the xt130 strut bolt holes would line up. i was going to try and fit the xt130 steering link rods to the ke55 suspension arm ball joint but i never got around to it. also you will need to choose which strut tops as the ke55 strut tops wont fit the xt130 shock absorber rod. either you have to mod the ke55 strut tops to fit or to fit the xt130 strut tops into the ke55, you will need to enlarge the center mounting hole a little and drill new bolting holes. i found this easier. let me know what you find out regarding the coilover conversion as i want to do the same thing? good luck Quote

Or you can cut down the struts before the sleeve is welded on, to suit the length of shorter stroke SV21 Camry Struts. No further mods are needed as you can bolt your KE30/55 strut tops straight onto the camry's push rod. Quote
Harrycall Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Thanks for the feedback guys. I've got a pair of AE86 adjustable camber plates i'm going to use. Might investigate the SV21 option. Do you know how much shorther they are than standard KE55? Quote
bLinded_ Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/s...read.php?t=1115 Edit: Thought that had info on the SV21 inserts, but it doesn't list them. Still a good read as it shows many other options. Second edit: I think Medicine_Man on here uses SV21 inserts in his struts. Maybe message him and see if he has a measurement. Do you know how much shorther they are than standard KE55? As far as i'm aware, the AE86 stud pattern on camber plates is not identical to KE30/55 but they are suitable for Ke70's. No idea on the actual length of the SV21 struts. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Daz is right, AE86 strut top WILL NOT fit a KE30 or 55, i have tested this myself. Also KE30/55 steering arms are same as KE70 ones, from center of one hole to other is like 83mm And i think the XT130 is different again, think that has the same 89mm ish spacing like TA22, AE86, T18 ect.. not 100% sure as i havnt got my XT130 struts yet. beerhead Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 SV21 and ST185 Inserts are the same length, 330mm from memory, about 35mm shorter than the XT130/AE86 Shock. The ST185 are a very short stroke shock., the SV21 are about 40mm longer in shaft length. Make sure you get a Koni weld on coilover kit. The aluminum ones are junk and shouldn't be seen on any car. silverra23 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 If you haven't done this already - otomoto kits are well priced. You need to use the Corona steering knuckle, or a Sprinter one. You can drill out one of the holes on the knuckle in the Corolla one if you want to (I did it when I got stuffed around buying some AE86 power steering knuckles) but it doesn't seem like the best way to do it!
