corolla_nut Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Hi We were just wanting to get some clarification on this... We have been thinking about putting a 6-point roll cage in a race/road car, but we were told by a (retiring) engineer that he would not engineer a 6 point, only a 4 point. Therefore a 6-point roll cage would have been unregisterable. He is the only engineer in the area. We're not quite sure if this is true or he was saying it because he couldn't be stuffed. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a 6-point roll cage engineered in a road registered car? love ke70 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 is in queensland at the moment. under the new NCOP it wont be fullstop, hence the push to get my car done  not sure if nsw is under NCOP yet? its hard to find a good engineer took me over a year try the expensive proper rod shops around the traps, they usually know a good engineer, or just don't engineer theyre cars, but thats the difference between a good and a bad rod shop.. dfunkt Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 i have no first hand knowledge of anything, just going by others that i've seen/read 4 point is fine, most cars change to being only able to seat 2 because rear passenger safety is compromised with the bars in the back. 6 point is uncertifiable because of the bars extending to the front. they are dangerous to the driver and front passenger, as well as a hinderance in getting out of the vehicle. Taz_Rx Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 You need to check with the RTA in your state, as it is different from state to state. For example (IIRC) a 4 point cage is legal in WA, but a 6 point isn't. And then in Vic both 4 and 6 points are legal for road use!! Another thing to barein mind - You say its a race/road car. Last thing you want to do is plan and build a cage to legal road specs, only to find out its not acceptible by CAMS or ANDRA!! Quote
slapper Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 last time I checked ... In SA, you can only register a 4 point, and the front bar needs to be 200mm (if I recall correctly) behind the driver's head. Plus you have to remove the rear seat and have your car registered as a 2 seater. Not sure whether the seat removal needs to be engineered or it's just an inspection or what ... soon as I got to the "car becomes 2 seater" bit I stopped paying attention  cheers, Slapper Quote
