sidewaysvc Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 turns out my bottom pully is really noisy (4k) i thought bearing but a bloke at work swears it doesnt have one just some rubber stuff or something any ideas? oh n water pump shat itself anyone got a new one lying around Quote
philbey Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Why do you say it's noisy? There's no bearing on the pulleys, but some K engines have a pulley with a rubber section that might have thrashed out. Any parts shop should be able to help you with a water pump, no point putting in an old one. Quote
sidewaysvc Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 yeah its noisy as soon as i spray wd40 on it goes quiete. whats this rubber bit u speak of?? Quote
Roo Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 yeah its noisy as soon as i spray wd40 on it goes quiete. whats this rubber bit u speak of?? think he is taking about the oil seal nothing should really but making noise down there replace the oil seal and see if that fixes it Quote
Mick E Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 The fan belt is the problem replace it with a new one and make sure it's tight Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 think he is taking about the oil seal nothing should really but making noise down there replace the oil seal and see if that fixes it No 5k crank pulleys are 2 pieces of steel sandwiching a rubber seal. Wouldn't be this though. As mentioned above it sound like you problem is just a noisy belt (ie goes with a spray of WD40). Replace it and come back to us. :) Quote
philbey Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 What do you mean by the water pump shaft shat itself as well? Are the seals leaking, or is it bent? Because if there's any chance it's bent then that's probably the cause of the noise. And yes, I was talking about the rubber in the balancer, not the front oil seal. Quote
sidewaysvc Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 And yes, I was talking about the rubber in the balancer, not the front oil seal. whats this rubber ur talking about is it on the inside of the pully? As mentioned above it sound like you problem is just a noisy belt (ie goes with a spray of WD40). Replace it and come back to us. its definatly not the belt squeeking i know that noise and its not that at all got the water pump out get new one tommorro hopefully keep u posted then Quote
philbey Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 don't worry abbout the rubber in the pulley. It is used to dampen vibration in the motor and I think only 5K's come standard with them anyway. see if the pump changes anything. Keep us posted. Quote
sidewaysvc Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 pulled the pully off when i had the front of my car apart cos I'm not doing it twice pulled off the bottom pully and the back half is fairly worn so it the seal but only prob is can't get the seal out any hot tips?? oh water pump in nice n shinney Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 The front main seal? Just lever it out with a flat screw driver. Don't be afraid to damage it (it'll happen) as you're replacing it. I still don't exactly see how a front main seal can be noisey anyway!!! Quote
sidewaysvc Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 yeah neither can i but thought f@$k it ill do it while shit is apart keep u posted how i go Quote
philbey Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 It shouldn't be the seal, unless it's not seated correctly. If it makes that much noise, I'd be guessing that it's knackered anyway and you should be seeing lots of oil.... Screwdriver it out but take care not to score the faces of the engine block when you do it. Quote

sidewaysvc Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 well the seal is very hard! and after further inspection the pully shaft doesnt look to healthy so not 100% sure but probably replace seal n pully while its off may as well! the front seal doesnt stop oil coming out it stops stuff eg dirt dust grime into my block and into my oil its a swipe seal..
