Evan G Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 i filled up on 130000km and now its 1300240 just over the empty point? can a 4kc with a trimatic be that that unecomonical? I'm shocked... (worth swapping over to a 3kc carby?) (how can i reset the mixtures?) cheers Evan Quote
love ke70 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 replace leads spark plugs air filter rotor button and dizzy cap probably points too and fuel filter if you havnt already that is. check tyre pressures. check for leaks set timing to 8-10 degrees. check vac advance is working i would consider the 3k carby, or just put a carby kit through the 4k one, they can be economical, i used to get under 8 litres per hundred week after week even giving the car a flogging at times. check compression too while your at it... then see how you go. oh, it is stock isnt it? (on my other 3kc it was the opposite?) all the advance things work (checked at tafe) timing is set at 12? dwell was set as per manual all cylinders are at 160psi exept cylinder 4 its at 140psi? doesnt blow smoke pressures are bumped rite up Edited August 24, 2009 by Evan G Quote
love ke70 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 so long as its not pinging 12 is fine, mine ran around that for ages. are all the other servicables up to date? hard to diagnose a carby problem without seeing it, air flow is going to be different with the filter off though, and at idle there isnt much velocity so its not gonna atomise in the barrell all that well... Quote
Evan G Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 nah i mean when I'm doing around 2000rpm at idle and blimp the trottle it just drip fuel down the venturies istread of atomise it? Quote
love ke70 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 ill wait for someone who knows more about it to answer that one.. Quote
Rolla Newbie Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 A bit of crap in the needle and seat? Quote
Evan G Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 A bit of crap in the needle and seat? possibly, how do i clean it out? use that tool to clean the oxy tips?? a blocked needle would make it run lean?? Quote
Evan G Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 would a 3k carby lean out on a 4k? Quote
irokin Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 How many litres is a "full tank"? Last time I checked a "full tank" was not a standard of measurement. Remembering your fuel gauge is possibly out by a good whack the only way we're going to know how good/bad your fuel economy is, is if you can provide us with an accurate volume of fuel used. Quote

irokin Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Wow.... I mean traumatics are bad but thats just....wow! So that works out to something like 17L/100km. I'm stunned its even possible for a corolla to get that much fuel through the motor. Just as a comparison my worst fuel consumption ever is in the silvia on the track at 23L/100km and thats flat out all the time. I'd be looking for outright fuel leaks if your spark plugs aren't fouled much. Quote
Evan G Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 JESUS! thats redicilous, ill have a scope over everything 2moro Quote
tioklou Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 hello my car has a 4k-u with a weber DGV 32/32 carb! with normal driving my car gets 250km with 20L... maybe you have a carb problem...change it and check again!!! Quote
tioklou Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 in my opinion 4k carby is not working very well! 3k carb is so good and working pretty well ,so as weber DGV!! Quote
