brendan Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) hi all i installed front brakes off a ke55 onto my ke25 though know my stud pattern is different to the front, I'm looking to modify the ke55 diff into my ke25, i know i have to cut mounts and relocate them though would the offset still be the same(lengthways) cheers has anyone done this before ? philbey Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) I've not looked closely but it's very commonly done in the hotrod world. I've got a good writeup, I *might* be able to scan it and send you a copy. Cut the mounts off the KeE55 diff, cut (carefully) the mounts of the 20 diff, swap weld etc. The article also had a digital protractor to make sure angles etc were accurately done, which seemed like 100 bucks well spent to me. Not sure about offset, lengths most likely different, so you may have issues. Edited September 8, 2009 by philbey Quote
styler Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 ke25 = 1320mm wheel mounting face to wheel mounting face ke55 = 1355mm wheel mounting face to wheel mounting face you can do a ke55 diff with std wheels in a ke25, or maybe a bit wider wheels or more neg offset but not a lot. considered using ke55 axles in ke25, the faq had some info on this, as its easier than swapping diffs if stud pattern change is what you are after? coln72 Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Do the above. All you need to do is to get the axles shortened a few mm. don't need to do this but it is much nicer to the diff if you do. Quote
brendan Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 i tried looking for it in faq but couldnt find excacly what i needed so does that mean i can slide 55 axles into 25 jap diff? cheers Quote
Jono Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 ke55 borg warner is a pretty strong diff, they are a BW68 and come in some datsuns as well - some guys put ca18dets in front of them. i had the 4agte in front of a BW68 and it survived although i'm a pretty sympathetic driver. on the ke20 i had to use fwd offset wheels (saab) and to use the same rims on the front i had to run spacers. coln72 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 You can put 55 axles into a 25 housing as long as its jap/jap or bw/bw. Can not mix jap and bw bits :no2: Quote
brendan Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 and then can i set up the ke 55 brakes and drums on the 25 diff and how can i tell if its a jap diff? Quote
drc_ke20 Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I'm gonna do the same on my ke25 so sorry if i steal your wise advice and read along with your post guys...hehehehe!!! :no2: Quote
brendan Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 haha no worries id rather put 55 axles into 25 difff less work than trying to mod 55 diff in there Quote

styler Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 jap ie banjo = front loading diff centre (nuts at front of diff housing) aus ie borg warner = rear loading diff centre (nuts at rear of diff housing) i wouldnt particually bother with swapping drums even if it can be done, its probably more hassle than its worth in your case. coln72 Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 You need to change the actual drum as the bolt pattern is different and the early ones will not go on the studs :no2: I have a feeling that KE55 drum may be larger than KE2* & KE3* so will need to use the matching backing plates as well, but it has been a long time since I did this conversion.
