A shank nut as you have circled would be a neater and better option. There might not be a whole lot of thread sticking out the top for you to get the nut on to.

A J P S sell them by themselves I believe if you want to buy them. I got some made up by my machine shop to suit my Koni strut / Cusco strut top combo in my ke35 race car.

I have read various reports where guys have also had to buy the "upper hat system" from T3 to make them work with coil overs and prevent stiction when turning, will be interested to see if you need to do that with yours.

Are you just fitting them to standard struts, or using coil overs?

Just looked at the link for these things, will they fit KE3X. the site says 79 to 83 corolla but that would include KE55's and KE70's so presummably if the fit 55's they would fit KE3X. or am i completely wrong?

I'm fitting them to the standard struts, oh well ill see how i go, if i need to get shank nuts made ill leave the camber tops for another day

yes they would fit.

i think the cusco items are a better thing myself.

this is what I'm tossing up between, there is a big difference in price, $350 cusco v.s $220 techno tuning, will be good to see how you go Evan G. the weld on coil over kit techno tuning supply would match these i spose, contemplating whether i should do this. seems to cheap to be true 180 for the tops and 200 for the weld on coilovers, seems cheap if these just weld onto existing strut.

having never used t3 tops before (only cusco) i don't know how they go together BUT in every other case yes you will need those shank nuts as the threaded part on the shock is thinner in diameter than the hole on the pillow ball and also the thread wont be long enough.. kinda wierd not to get them though..
