  1. The fun begins, rolla's are great to work on and i still own the one i bought in my teenage years! Sounds like good plans to get the project going, goodluck looking forward to more pics
  2. The parking officer who decided that the small portion at the rear of my car extending past the end of the parking sign required an $88 fine. It will now remind me not to park in back alley where my car couldn't in anyway obstruct traffic. Cheers Bud
  3. ^^^^ as above those scrapers are great, also just the plain spring steel type scrapers used for wood get rid of paint quick (they are called cabinet scrapers). I found in sections of old paint these remove the paint super quick, bit of a knack to using them though.
  4. You'll spend alot of money to get a pretty unimpressive gain with a non boosted 3K or 4K, you will have alright smooth power but in no way a rocket ship. If you just want it going decent for a stock motor, give the head a reco. rebuild the carbie and sort out the timing that will at least get it going ok. sort out a budget and that will give peoples comments a much more focused response. can spend 2 grand very quick on these engines
  5. Its probably not the best method but a wire brush fitting for an angle grinder saw my whole car stripped of paint back to bare metal. I'd say as above paint stripper will work better though. Wire brush did knock out surface rust as i went which was handy
  6. Extractors are cheap and easy to fit, $200 thereabouts can get them most places. second hand one come up pretty often.
  7. Gotta say this is one great effort, looks the goods!!! much inspiration to keep building rolla's.
  8. cheers mate. Got some more work done today, removed old engine (they sustain some serious valve bounce sounds horrible but i didn't break anything)./ Gave the engine bay a good degrease and some rattle can black to clean things up. Also got to work on building up new engine hopefully will have it running tomorrow.
  9. This car looks like a very classy classic , nice work mate :y:
  10. Hi all got the head back from engineers and the 4220 dual valve springs fit perfect into the 4K head without needing any work. next step will be testing phase and finding out what rev's they enjoy
  11. Got some more go fast bits back today  . Loving the look of the dual valve springs. Compression I will be running is 9.34 : 1 so not extreme but at least decent. Also fitted the rear sway bar today, definitely makes a big improvement. Challenge now is to have this engine all together in and running by friday hahaha. A few pics to demonstrate that Crow Cam 4220 dual valve springs fit snug in a 4K head.
  12. Got some more work done today yay!!! managed to get the bottom end completely back together and all ready to roll. first time i had ever done this sort of engine work so was a bit slow haha. Just waiting on the head to get finished of by the engineers. Also heard back today that the dual valve springs from crow cams fitted no drama's and nothing needed to be changed to fit :) Here are some pics of the pretty new engine from today. The complete assembled bottom end
  13. I'd like to be steering that wheel, looks tops. The car all round looks awesome mate, very cool styling.
  14. Yeah i did some serious tread reading to find what should fit. Ended up getting dual valve springs from Crow Cams (part No. 4220) which for $120 seamed like a very affordable option. The head is currently of at the engineers getting a reco and having the springs fitted. Should be able to let everyone know if you need to replace anything at all to fit them in 4k heads (like retainers etc).
  15. Cheers mate this finalised my decision. I ordered a set of 4220's from crow cams today, so will report back when i get the motor together and going.
  16. Legend exactly the kinda info I'm after, cheers
  17. thanks for that info definitely helpful, assume this was in a 5k engine? Wade 169 seems very close to what cam grind I'm running so i'd say this may be an option the question still remains who has tested them? i see 'philbey' has commented he has had success (in a 5k) but i am really after more info on specific set ups, as coln72 helped out with. i have been reading alot of 'in my opinion' and 'heard this works' without much direct results from testing & own usage hence this post. if you have used them Evan G i'd be keen to hear your results and set up they were used in
  18. Hey All i have been doing some thread trawling and I'm getting alot of info but not many definitives. my situation is engine will hit 8000rpm, and valve lift of over 0.400" . running this in a 4k and decent cam measured approx 30-35 / 70 - 75 . Understand that this info is a little general but help and experience with different combo's and set ups would be brillant. Options i have found in the threads: 202 holden single valve springs. do not know if need addtional work to fit? Crow cams 4220 dual valve springs (apparently same as A series datto engines ? ) and other reports of TRD dual valve springs (i'd expect not going to happen with limited time i have). anyone who has tried this or has reports of high revs and valve springs I'm really in need of some more definitive info also what work was required to fit them etc. Some threads I have found useful thus far: 5k Valve Springs In A 4k And 3k http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/20044-5k-valve-springs-in-a-4k-and-3k/ 4k valve springs upgrade http://www.club-k.co.nz/Forums/viewthread.php?tid=16631 Valve Spring Bind http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/50718-valve-spring-bind/page__hl__%2Bvalve+%2Bspring+%2B Valve Spring Discussion - Who's Used What? http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/38950-valve-spring-discussion-whos-used-what/page__hl__%2Bvalve+%2Bspring+%2B Matching Valve Springs To A Motor http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/16926-matching-valve-springs-to-a-motor/ Cheers
  19. Hey all, quick question. I have been trawling the threads for info on valve springs and come up with a few options 202 holden single valve springs. Crow cams 4220 dual valve springs (apparently same as A series datto engines) and other reports of TRD dual valve springs (i'd expect not going to happen with limited time i have). I'm looking to go over 8000rpm and will be over 0.400" of valvelift. will be running in a 4K head anyone who has tried this or has reports of high revs and valve springs I'm really in need of some more definitive info also really need to no what work was required to fit them etc also started this thread http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/58653-4k-valve-springs-high-rpm/
  20. The wallet has been taking a hit and soon parts should be getting installed. Engine: Rebuilt 4K bottom end i purchased. has double row timing gear. 40 thou oversized pistons and what i measured to be approx. 30/70 camshaft. (pretty lumpy i think?) heavy duty clutch getting a full reco on the head and heavy duty valve springs. DGAV 32/36 Weber, rebuilt and will be jetting Suspension & Brakes Rebuilding ke55 girlock calipers 30mm lower kings springs 4 x monroe GT gas shocks (hopefully they are not to bad) some nolathene bushes for various connections also when i get a chance i have got a late ke55 coupe rear sway bar to fit up.
  21. Pretty sure i got mine for about $200 new a couple years back
  22. After a long hiatus in progress, this car is finally looking to get some more work in next few weeks!!!. plans engine rebuild and replacement. should be a downdraught weber and headwork on a rebuilt bottom end. Then all going well the beast will be getting some suspension work, finally get around to fitting rear sway bar, add some lowered springs, new shocks, reset leaves. Very excited, will put up pictures of progress as i go
  23. Exactly where i started a few years back, you should definitely be able to find something decent under 2k if your willing to learn and fix a few things. Great cars to learn about building, hope to see a project thread :y:
  24. Here is some advice. you have really got to add up a few things. A. can you work on the car and to what extent and Skills. B. what condition is the car in and your budget. A + B = C (cost you should be looking to pay, simple assessment) personally there is no way i'd pay $5000 for a ke70 with a stock 4k, but i can work on a car and will happily fix the odd problem. Really there is not too many rolla's your going to buy and something isn't tired or worn. if you have skills in fixing these cars they are very cheap to run. but if not they can be a money pit. goodluck on hunting mate
  25. I think that bright colour would look tacky as, gunmetal would look sweet as (like above) and this also is something to think on.
