Rudy Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Hello Looking at buying another Corolla and spotted this one up for sale. I can't find any info about these coupes which make me wonder if its possibly more trouble than its worth, replacing lens', panels all that sort of stuff. Its got a nice shape and after owning a 76 Corolla coupe and a Charger(never to be gotten rid of) i thought this still retained a bit of style. They say its a 91 AE101R world Cup model.Any help much appreciated thanks. Simon Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I don't know much about these, think they're a levin or treuno. Wait from a reply from hiro or maybe uncle shades, I'm sure either will give you the run down. :P Quote
beerhead Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 These are the models that many of the common RWD engine swaps are sourced from. AE101 come with a 4AGZE supercharged or a 20V Silvertop Quad throttle motor. Because theirs heaps of half cuts at the importers you should be able to source front end parts easily enough. But yeah, they seem like a sweet package, and if your lucky it'll be a superstrut model which drastically reduces torque steer. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) JDM AE101 coupe, can't be sure if it's a Levin or Trueno but my gut is saying Trueno from the rear tail-lights. Had either the silvertop 20v or 4AGZE, shares some components with ADM models (like suspension, except the Superstrut models) and others can be swapped (like seats) but the body panels, lights etc are all unique Edited March 2, 2010 by Hiro Protagonist Quote
7shades Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Levin. Same spec as the GT-APEX but different front bar, grille and centre tail light garnish. Will have an n/a silvertop 20 valve and horrible black cheap feeling interior. The BZ-R and BZ-G superstruts were the generation after these. Quote

Yes the BZ-R and BZ-G were AE111 models, but the AE101 did have a superstrut option too, I think in the GTZ and GT-Apex. And a Levin with different front bar, grille and tail-lights is usually a Trueno in FWD Corollas :blinks: Usually the easiest way to tell on models prior to the AE111 is that if it has a radiator grille, it's a Levin - if the panel is solid, it's a Trueno. *EDIT - looked at the original Carpoint ad, it states there that it is a Levin GT, and closer inspection of the front-end seems to show a visible radiator grille, thus indeed making it a Levin. But yes, GT is a spec level below the good ones, but it still has a 20v, just slugged with a crappy 4-speed auto. Edited March 2, 2010 by Hiro Protagonist Quote
7shades Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) I was wondering that... This one is all weird. So, It has a Levin nose, but the tail lights have a body colour garnish with centre badge. Every other variant of the Trueno and Levin all have the badge on the bootlid and a red centre garnish... I've not seen one before. Has the GT-Apex factory alloys though... Edited March 2, 2010 by 7shades Quote

If it's a '91 then it would be one of the first ones, maybe we're just used to seeing later-series AE101s like these: *EDIT - looked at some JDM brochures I found on Toymods, the OP's lights are _definitely_ Trueno rear lights Edited March 2, 2010 by Hiro Protagonist Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Oh my, please, buy it! Can always take the motor out and use it in another project in the future if you decide that its time to let it go :blinks: Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 JDM brochures for series 1 and 2 Levin and Trueno can be found here: http://www63.tok2.com/home2/tuccy/library-le.htm Quote
