lachiereeves Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Wanted to know the average price of a 5k engine.... I want to know (if you've got a 5k or bought one before) what you paid for yours? I bought two 5k engines for $250. One of them in parts, but the other complete. The complete one hasn't been run in a while and will not run for a while yet. Also I heard that 3, 4 and 5k parts are all inter changeable, is this true? I noticed the 5k has got different pistons to the 3k but thats about it. I'm guessing the pistons are interchangeable then. Cheers Lachie Edited May 10, 2010 by lachiereeves Quote
philbey Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 100 bucks each I paid for both of mine, in pieces, in boxes. Complete though. I'd pay up to 500 for a runner depending on condition of engine etc. As for interchangeable parts, most bits fit. Pistons bigger and dished, crank same as 4K, heads are different, but mostly yes. love ke70 Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 accessories are, not too many internals are. check out the faq, most 5ks have like you said, different pistons, with about a 16cc dish in them, which means the combustion chamber in the head in a 5k is rather small, so if you change pistons you have to change heads. i picked up a bottom end in parts for 20 bucks once, but 250 for a pair is a very good price, quite a sort after motor in these places :jamie: Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Yeah if you go with the assumption that anything inside the motor ISN'T interchangable, but everything that bolt onto the outside of the motor IS, you should be sorted. :jamie: I paid $350 for good condition running motor. Quote
canna Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 yeah i payed 100 with a 32/36 webber. its a runner too :jamie: Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Hard to get in WA. I paid $300 + $300 in freight. Quote
coln72 Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 First one was $700 odd dollars way back (over 15 years ago??), second one cost $100 but needed a set of big end bearings. Quote
