markhansen1983 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Hi guys, I know bugger all about cars, and have never pretended to, but my car has been having a lot of overheating issues, and i'm pretty sure it's done a head gasket. It's a ke70. On top of that, when I opened my engine bay: this is what greeted me. I have no idea what these pipes do, or where they should be connected. If any of you can enlighten me that'd be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark Quote
Dropz Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 the first hose is 100% correct. it is the coolant overflow hose. When your engine coolant gets hot it expands into the overflow, if the overflow bottle is too full then it needs to drop some coolant, the hose your holding in the photo allows this by going nowhere, so the coolant flows out onto the road therefore correcting the level in the bottle. i think the next 2 hoses are meant to be attatched to each other, but I'm not 100% on that. I do know they are for your fuel system though. Quote
19914afc Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 I think the second picture is a hose from the charcoal canister, if it is its only for emissions I think. Quote
Trev Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) 2nd pic hose is meant to connect to the carby. 3rd pic hose goes to the old 3 point return fuel pump, It is basically the return from the pump like a regulator. Edited May 9, 2010 by Trev Quote
markhansen1983 Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 Thanks Trev. So does not having those last 2 connected do any damage? Or could it have been caused by/caused the car to be overheating, or are they just minor pieces. Thanks in advance Quote
Trev Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 If it has got a simple in out fuel pump then 3rd pic is fine. Number 2 allows your tank to vent properly, A lot of people remove it when they remove the emissions hoses, Connect it or leave it it is up to you. Oh and I didn't think I had to reply about pic 1 :jamie: Quote
markhansen1983 Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 haha. cheers mate. With regards to my car overheating, and suspected blown head I'll have to get a mechanic to have a look at it and see what he thinks. Cheers Quote
jason12 Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Check under the oil cap for white milky oil, this is the best way to check for a bhg Quote
GJM85 Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 there could be a number of reasons the engine is overheating... *bunk water pump *bunk thermostat *losing coolant? *bunk radiator (cracked/corroded) *real low engine oil the list could go on... a blown head gasket or cracked head is usually the result of severe overheating....
