Chief Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 hey guys i just received a 5k engine and it has degreaser inside the tapped cover and it was all degreased inside?the dude i bought it off said it has had head porting 6 months ago and now it has a leaking head gasket is the seller trying to hide something or is it good to clean inside the tappet cover i always thought oil was in there? Cheers Quote
Jono.C Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 if its been rebuilt id say it was just cleaned out for when it was put back together.. as far as cleaning it out id say degreaser wouldnt be a good idea.. because next time you put oil in you'll get little bits of degreaser in your oil :D wouldnt know without seeing it though. Chief Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 nah he said he had it running after the head porting thats why i was confused lol Quote
Dropz Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 you should use diesel or proper oil flush additives to clean it out if its in running condition. Quote
Chief Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 Yea i probably have to go through it again with diesel and flush it all out. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 SOUNDS VERY DODGY TO ME!!!!! So it has a "suspected" leaking head gasket. And the tappet cover has been obviously degreased AFTER its been running after the rebuild. This says to me that the seller is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Chances are the tappet cover was degreased cause of the mayonaise (well blown HG) that was in it. Quote
Chief Posted May 24, 2010 Author Report Posted May 24, 2010 yeah thats what i was thinking too but i wasn't completely sure if there was oil in there but i had a look in the coolant top out let and i couldn't see any of the milky substance just coolant mark's or in the sump oil and it didn't have any traces of it. thanks taz, dropz and jono c for the help Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Because of the pressure differences its more common to get water in the oil (and cause mayo) than oil in the water. Undo the sump plug and see what comes out first, oil or water. As the oil will sit on top of the water in the sump, if there's any water in the sump it'll drain out first. Last time I blew a HG I drained about a litre of water from the sump before I even saw any oil!!! Quote
Chief Posted May 24, 2010 Author Report Posted May 24, 2010 ahh cool thanks for all you time and info taz i figured i would put some photo's up to see if you guys can find anything i have missed wrong with the engine. The piston's. I read somewhere that you have to number the push rod's so you don't get them confused but i think that was on an 8 so i did it anyways to make sure. Thats some of the milky goodness in the head lol CHEERS GUY'S Quote
Chief Posted May 24, 2010 Author Report Posted May 24, 2010 is that the type piston it has? whats the deal with those? Quote
Evan G Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 imported piston, less compression excellent for BOOST Quote
Chief Posted May 24, 2010 Author Report Posted May 24, 2010 ahhh sick so does that indicate its had an engine rebuild or its an imported motor or something? Cheers for the info man Quote
