can you put a 4age big port head on to a 4afe block looking at the engine specs they both seem the same exept for the compresion. can a 4age crank be used in one

yes it can be done the alternator,pwr steer pump and starter motor are in diff places

the 4afe has 2 bolts less in fly wheel then 4age

the wiring is different and exhaust ports are diff so need new headers to change from fe to ge

Short answer is - yes to both questions.

 

Long answer is still yes, but, to use the "G" head on the 4af you'll more or less need everything from the front end of the 4ag - cam gear off the crank, water pump and i can't think of the rest. This stuff is different to the 4af.

You can use the 4ag crank in the 4af block but you'll need the 4ag flywheel as well. The 4ag flywheel uses 8 bolts to hold it to the crank where as the 4af uses only 6 bolts.

 

They also say that using the "G" head on the 4af lowers the compression but when i did it i never noticed the loss - i could still lose traction on the front wheels in third gear in the wet. Maybe i had an odd ball of a setup. But that seams to be a pretty common run for me with cars and motors.

 

 

If your planning on using the 4af in a rwd you'll be disappointed - the 4af doesn't have the spots for the engine mounts. The 4afc block that i've got has the "bosses" but their not drilled and tapped.

thanks guys that helps heaps. its front wheel drive its just I'm having trouble finding a 4ag block but i hav 2 4af blocks so this will now get the build going thanks again

Trouble finding a block? Unless you're out the back of Woop-woop, complete running 4AGEs are quite easy to find, and not exactly expensive either (probably end up costing you less than sourcing all the individual parts you'll need to make the F block work.

finding all the parts is not the issue everything in the block and head is bein swaped for more choice items for time attack i have even made a alloy cam and timing cover titanium custom engine mounts and much more. I havnt found anyone with just a block all have been complete engines for around $750
