Hey guys,

I am quite puzzled at the moment, I have a 40inch full HD in my bedroom but I do not have a tv port. Now I have bought mulitple indoor antennas which are meant to be good for digital tv.

However no matter where I put any of these antennas i can't even get a single channel even old school tv... I have tried to do it near a window, I have even placed the antenna outside and still no channels... We have a tin roof, would this effect it?

If anyone knows of anything that I can buy or use that will give me reception i would appreciate it, I am almost thinking of buying a caravan antenna, but I'm not even sure if this will work.

The only other option is to pay someone to wire me an antenna port :/ but not to sure how much that would cost me

Basicly indoor antenna are absolute shit, and NONE are good for digital tv.

They all say they are but of course they will, they want you to buy them.

They will only work good if you are in an incredibly good reception area and even then its a maybe.

You can splice a length of coaxial cable onto the one already running off your antenna and run it to your room with the appropriate plug

Or buy a separate DECENT antenna (about $60 from Bunnings) and run it to your room.

Google should supply you with which direction to point the antenna in your part of town.

I am in the process of doing the same thing.

Or get Austar/Foxtel installed

Or like you said, pay someone. But its not really that hard, google around.

Yea I was thinking of getting an external antenna and just running the cable through my window hahaha

screw austar/foxtell too expensive tbh and I really don't watch that much TV, just sometimes sleeping for me doesnt happen so laying in bed watching tv is a pretty sweet deal.

Plus with all these new tv channels who needs austar, and then downloading also :P

Go talk so someone at Bunnings, they are pretty good and will sell you the right shit for your area.

My local one has a touch screen tv that you can search for the right product on.

And google around for help on installing it. I'd find a good one for ya but my nets been slowed down and a page takes ages to load >|

this is what i thought as well...

but last night girlfriend asked me to setup her new digital set top box onto her TV (just a basic 51cm 4:3 CRT)

and she had these 'rabit ears' antenna just sitting on top of the TV, quite big ones (probably close to 1200mm high), with a little circle antenna as well. and being the skeptic i am, i went on about how useless internal antennas are. connected everything up....

the damn settop box found ALL the digital AND analogue stations, and is displaying them all PERFECTLY. like crystal clear. and its only a cheapo set top box (possibly a kmart or coles jobby, has a USB port to play AVI's though which is kinda cool)

the antenna is placed inside her room, just ontop of the TV, house is in carindale, not on a hill or anything......

just read back and you mentinoed you had a tin roof, id say that would have a fairly large effect on your reception (girlfriends is a tiled roof). id go with what bubbles said, in regards to splicing into your current antenna (coax is easy to join, but youll need a splitter box, dick smith will have one of these).

alternatively get yourself another small outside antenna, a few broom sticks, some duct tap. and hang it out your window!

hahaha hanging it out the window was the plan, or screwing it into the veranda that is just outside my bedroom window and then just flowing the cable throw my window.... that should get me going hahaha!

:hmm: the set top box might boost the reception, but she may also be in a really good reception area.

It sucks at my town house as our room is on the second floor on the opposite side of the house from where the tv plug is.

And the antenna wire runs through the walls as every unit runs off one antenna.

The old 'made by the cheapest bidder problem'. Seriously, why wouldn't you run one to the master bedroom :bash:

Also back OT... check this thread, it may help LINK

Bubbles?? :lolcry:

How far away is your room from the main antenna plug? Just get a huge extension :P

I made a 20m extension and ran it down the hallway in my old house along the skirting board.

Cost about 30 bucks to make. Or run it under the house etc

There are a few options anyway.

Dunno if it was just us but when I got back from visiting family for a couple of weeks, we had no channels either :( and ours was working perfectly before we left. I am tuned into the Ballarat transmitter as well so that may of been an issue for you if it was down.
