SLOTH Snr Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 Just got a phone call from the engine rebuilder. I guess it was good news. Seems as though the old fuel pump had longer non genuine bolts. When I removed it and put a plate over it I used the same bolts as my plate was 4mm thinner. Unfortunatly this 4mm was enough to hit the cam. I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT! Atleast now we are getting a mild cam and larger valves STUPID,STUPID,STUPID. Oh well! hope somebody else can learn from this. Quote
Felix Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 something to be careful of. on pretty much all the k series engines i have played with, there were studs screwed into the block for the fuel pump attachment (on k/3k/4k/5k, never touched a 7k yet). i will keep it in mind when i get rid of my mech fuel pump and put my blanking plate on. on the bright side, i think you will find a lot more go with a cam change. just be reasonably conservative. Super Jamie Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 i've done the same, tho in my case, i broke the arm off the fuel pump guess i was lucky Quote
Felix Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 what happened there jamie, didn't have the spacer in? Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 yeah. that was back in the old stock-3k-ke35 days Quote
Felix Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 that's it, we all f@$k up at one stage or another. all part of learning. Quote
SLOTH Snr Posted October 13, 2005 Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 Makes me feel better. But the wallet still hurts New cam and while we're there larger valves, heavier springs and ported. Should start to hum now Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 "Without disappointment you can't appreciate victory" Anyone that says they have not made a stupid mistake while learning...is lying...The things I look back on now and go WHY WHY WHY, but because I did whatever stupid thing I did...that is why I now know what a stupid thing it was to do. love ke70 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 lol talking of stupid things, put new springs in the ke70 yesterday after autobarn told me, no you can't have the shocks til monday even tho they said they will be in by the afternoon :P so, pissed off already, put it all back together with new springs, and go to fit it into the car, and the strut tops wont fit! ;) so i try it on the other side after swearng and fiddling with the heavy bastard things for a half hour or so, and she swings straight in...only trouble, gap for the caliper is on the rong side of the rotor now so i have to pull the tops off and swap them over, i spose it only cost me time and sleep so i wasnt as unfortunate as u sloth, but seriously, small issues are so bloody annoying. especially those where if we think about it, it should never have happened :P but seriously, who would think that strut tops are different side to side ! anywho, I'm feeling better now lol Quote
Teddy Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Ahahahahah Jason and i had that problem.. mate, your not alone ! Quote
love ke70 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 ;) its amazing how much better that makes me feel lol i did put them in 2 seperate spots, then i realised the bearings in them were seized i so wd40,compressed air, brake cleaned, and compressed air them again then regreased them, must have got them mixed up during that process :P was so pissed off tho, coz i had to get it back together for work, and only had had 4 hrs sleep and its such a pain in the ass coz i only have 2 spring compressors, so had to compress one, take the spring out, decrompress it, compress the other one, fit it to the other strut and then recrompress the other spring, was soooo annoying! at least i know the ke70 guru did it too :hmm: makes me mildly less ashamed :P Quote
Teddy Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 ahahaha they look frekin the same, but oh no, they have to be different, by a bee's dick length / position ! adleast you didnt start drilling extra holes into the strut area in fury :P Quote
love ke70 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 yeah i reckon, bees dick is right, i measured with calipers b4 i would let myself believe the f@$kers were different why didnt i think of drilling new holes :P :P Quote
love ke70 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 hehe i see a corolla correctional tool! it was just a fluke i tried the other side, but i knew the dam things had come out, so there was no reason for them not to go back, felt like crying lol Quote
