Mason. Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) on my 5k the dipstick tube was bent up toward the spark plugs, so i decided to bend it back hoping it wouldnt snap. well it did right at the entry to the block, its not fully snapped off, its just like a crack. can i fix it with sealent and hope it holds? if not do i have to pull the engine sump off to get it out? and can the 4k dipstick tube be used as a replacement? thanks guys, this may set back my plan to do the conversion in this weekend Edited March 25, 2011 by Mason. Mason. Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 hold up guys i just did some research, i should just be able to pull the tube out, i thought it may be been bolted in from the inside :) Quote
7shades Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Nope, just shoved in there. Little o-ring on the bottom. Quote

Little o-ring on the bottom. thanks man, I'm assuming the 4k tube would be ok for a replacement? and by o'ring you mean fish it out through the sump drain hole??? lol a little bit confused Edited March 25, 2011 by Mason. 7shades Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 I *think* the 4k tube is the same. The o-ring is around the bottom of the tube where it shoves into the block. You'll see it when you yank it out. They're usually hard and leaking :P Quote
Mason. Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 well my idea of getting it out with vice grips isnt working, I'm way to cunfused haha ill wait till dad gets home, he'll fiqure somthing out. I'm to mechanically impared to understand how to get this thing out, without a step by step tutorial :P Quote
Mason. Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 its snapped flush the the block now, so i put screwed a bolt into thew tube making it a tight fit then tried pulling it out with vicegrips and its still not coming out :( haha its in their tight... i know that much Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Its too thin fo anything that squeezes it outwards like a bolt or an Ezyout, it just deforms and jams against the block. I think sump off might be the only answer, unless you can find something that works like an umbrella, gib (drywall) anchor that goes in small then opens up so you can pull agains the bottom, not the sides. Tricky... :( Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 The bend in the 5K dipstick tube is how it normally is, Try checking the oil in a cab over van with a std K engine dipstick tube. Quote
Evan G Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 might sound dodgy but push the old tube in the sump and leave it in there! its not like the oil pick up will suck it up or anything or fish it out with a borescope. Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 push the old tube in the sump and leave it in there Gold !!! :lolcry: Evan you're a genuis! So simple and it will work perfectly! Quote
Evan G Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 i dropped my keyway off the crank in the sump. left it in there and grab another one from the wreckers. when i took the engine out 3months later and pulled the sump off was just sitting on the baffle. Quote
