Evan G Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 hey fellas, i got a square type master cylinder in my 81 ke55 witch seams to leak when depressing the pedal under hard braking. is there any thing else that fits with the same stud pattern/push rod size/diameter as my std corolla booster? i don't wanna get one from another rolla as they all seam to be rusted or forked from a leaking master cyl can anyone point us in the right direction? thanks for your time Evan Quote
_FNQ_rolla_ Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Hi there Evan, Not sure if this is the same as yours or if this is what you are after but what I have on my KE35. I have changed it from the standard KE35 master cylinder and put on a Commodore VN V8 master cylinder that has a 1 inch bore (for my larger brakes). The V6 Commodores have a 15/16inch bore, where the standard KE35 has a 3/4 inch bore. Here are a couple of pictures which everyone loves KE35 Master Commodore VN V8 All the best EDIT The V6 Commodores have a 15/16inch bore, where the standard KE35 has a 3/4 inch bore. _FNQ_rolla_ Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Sorry about another post, but are you asking about the Master cylinder or the Brake booster. What I have done in the above post ….. see pictures ….. is just put a commodore Master Cylinder onto the Standard KE35 booster. Hope this makes sense. Quote
styler Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Good swap above for bigger brakes but don't do with standard brakes, the increase in diameter might not be much but if you work out the cross section it could be way off for standard calipers. Quote
Evan G Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 booster mateeee :rolls: also seams that v6 commo's have 3 oulets for the brakes as the corolla only has a front and rear curcit? Quote
styler Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Ah you can still get bigger boosters but yeah not much chance with matching up to both existing mountings, probably can do a bigger booster with new master cylinder attached, drill new firewall holes to mount and make pushrod to suit. But yeah shouldn't be leaking on the master regardless, a new booster won't solve that problem, just make it worse if thats the cause which is unlikely... Probably just a worn master cylinder... Oh and boosters might be available new as well. Edited May 11, 2011 by styler Quote
_FNQ_rolla_ Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 The Commodore boosters that I had a play with would not fit in there with out a far bit of work. (the biggest thing that I found was the diameter was far TOO big). I did just put a plug onto the front duel servo brake set up before I changed that to run a line to each front caliper All the best Quote
styler Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Ah seems the other thread this is going on about this rollaclub Quote
Evan G Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 styler - ive fitted another master cylinder bleed it up. under hard braking i can hear a vac leak from the booster from the cabin. when i had a apprentice in the car pressing the brakes while i was bleeding the master, i could clearly hear the booster leakage. also when i hold my foot on the brake hard and turn the key off, the pedal comes straight up after 2secs. i might go do some measurements down the wreckers on saturday and see what i find Quote
SLO-030 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Pulsar of some description fits. GTiR I think, but the model escapes me. Quote
TE278U Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 can't you get it recoed? I have had a remote booster recoed, vh44 in a ke25. worth looking into save you some trouble? Quote
Evan G Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Pulsar of some description fits. GTiR I think, but the model escapes me. according to the other thread, n14 gtir booster fits. might look into this can't you get it recoed? I have had a remote booster recoed, vh44 in a ke25. worth looking into save you some trouble? what did the reco'ing set you back dave? ill look into this aswell Quote
greenmac80 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 yeah the N14 pulsar booster will fit... but... the firewall will need a slight modding and the strut tower near the firewall will need a bashing too. the rolla doesn't really have much room to allow for bigger ones.. but it is a bolt in jobbie though.. i would use the booster and MC.. but for stock brakes its probs too big unless you have future plans for bigger brakes? the N14 booster on the listing is for the sr20 model but i highly doubt that the ca n14 would be a different bolt pattern Quote
Evan G Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 little update, went down my wreckers. tried fitting a ke70 booster to a ke30. some bashing of the strut tower and that the lip of the firewall needed a bashing aswell. it fits jussstttt. pushrod lenght/stud pattern every thing same. i found a overrated ke30 so i took that. thanks for the info fellas Quote
