hey guys was just wondering as i am the biggest noob when it comes to these cars, whats a good price to pay for one?

ive found one with rego til jan 2012 its an 1982 4k, 4 speed manual with 157 thousand on the clock has 7kg king springs in the back (not chopped) and new pedders struts/springs in the front 5kg (not chopped) it has an open diff too which as far as i know means it hasnt been drifted, well not very easily i guess...the ac works apparantly and has got no rust except some surface rust where paint chips are, like back quarters near back wheels says the dude, he wants 2800 for it...is that a fair price? and what should i be looking for? any help would be awesome as I'm seeing it tomorrow

thanks guys

I payed $180 for mine, 4k 5speed manual, unregistered, needing a new seat and window winder mechanism. got those from the wreckers and had 12months rego on it for less than $1000

$2800 does sound really steep. I can't justify paying over $2000 for an average ke70 with little or no mods.

for that price you could probably pick up a decent AE71, which will have a better motor and make things alot easier if you ever wanted to do the 4age conversion

I reckon too much too-

To get over $2000 it would need to be a overrated little car untouched. Mods only reduce the price, and what makes you think any car with lowered aftermarket suspension hasn't been thrashed.

Get a granny-spec one for under $2000, proabably auto, then build it as you want it.

Agreed. Don't pay for someone else's shit mods that you're only going to change anyway. 7kg rear springs in a daily?? That would be so annoying!

i figured an open diff would take either an icy road or some seriously will power to hold a decent slide haha but yeah i have been looking for a while and havent really found any around sydney, but yeah so if i got it for around 2 or under id be sweet? and with the auto to manual conversion isnt that a little hard? haha I'm willing to learn but yeah thanks for the replies i appreciate it

I concurr with everyone here. I'd never pay any more than $1500 for a stock KE70. If it has new springs/struts and you aren't buying it off a 70 year old man you can be certain it thrashed at least a bit. You still can have fun with an open diff (all it takes it water, dirt or absolutely thrashing the engine).

I paid $250 for my KE70.... Unregistered, 5k, great body (no real rust, a tiny little bit on one of the arches and some under one of the plastic strips on the door), not running (battery dead and clutch rooted), good condition cloth interior. As soon as you start looking at registered/roadworthy cars though they are over 1k.

As for the 7kg springs, I was discussing this yesterday with some AE86 owners, the consensus was (for the 86s at least) that even 6kg was starting to get a bit stiff for a daily (I ran 6kg in mine when I had it, and it was a bit stiff at the rear, though manageable but not the most comfortable ride).

yeah i thought 7kg was a bit much, i dunno its easier to say i wont pay more then 1500 for one than to actually get one especially in sydney cause everyone wants them i don't actually want to drift it i jsut really like the shape of them ive explored other options and as you said with the unrego-ed ones i was pretty keen to buy a shitter and restore it but its just too hard to get one to me on the northern beaches and then it would have to get a blue slip and go over the pits which as I'm told isnt very easy but yeah thanks for your advice I'm still not really sure what to do i just want one so badly as I'm sure you all understand haha
