Hey i've got my te27 steering arms on the way and ive been searching for some ae86 coil-overs for my ke20.. no luck so far and i don't want to fork out for brand newies. are there any other alternatives such as s13 coil overs? any additional modifications or will they go in the same? its just that they are easier to source.

Head on over to AE86drivingclub. I suspect you will find some there.

 

Personally, if you can wait I would look on yahoo. RA60 etc will also fit, but I would stick with the AE86 stuff for ease of supply of pads, discs etc. S13 are completely different.

 

Make sure you know what you are getting, and don't buy any crap.

 

Educate yourself a bit too. Be aware that all AE86 strut housings and caliper brackets are identical whether JDM or ADM. Buy "JDM" calipers. They fit over the vented discs and have 2022 cast into the body. Don't get sucked in to buying ADM solid disc calipers that people have installed over vented discs by grinding the pad face down.

 

Ask yourself why so many people are selling off single strut inserts after the other side has blown due to bottoming out. There is a lot of crap on there about which is the best insert to use

as Parrot said, stick with AE86 stuff man, so much easier, less hassle that way...

 

Although I have pics on my other computer of TE27's in japan with bolt in Nissan front brake/suspension setup. Looked like a Silvia setup, will post pics when I get time.

 

I'm not to sure about length and suitability of the other Toyota struts that share the same steering knuckle as the ae86 struts.

 

The E7 guys on ae86dc know there stuff about struts that go into E7's, basically anything that will bolt into a KE70/AE71/AE86, will bolt in to a KE2# with the right combination of parts, that doesn't mean you wont run into issues though....

 

AE86 struts are pretty close to what TE27's came out with factory so yea stick with AE86 struts like I did...

BC make cheapish NEW coilovers for ae86, there $750 and they are base height adjustable too.

yeah but for $750 brand new i suspect the quality of the shock is questionable. same with any coilover of that price.

 

depends how much money you want to fork out.

 

A J P S can make you a nice pair of coilvoers using bilstein B6 shocks for around $1500, i think that includes camber tops?

 

else if you can find a pair of ae86 struts, you can convert them into coilvoers yourself, choose what shock and spring you want (heaps to choose from).

 

be aware that building a front end for ae86 (or any car) from ground up using new and/or refurbished parts is VERY expensive. if you can try and find someone parting out their car i would try and buy it all in one go to save a bit of cash.

 

also you may be able to find some bargains on yahoo auctions.

Ive had the exact same BC coilovers in my car for a year and they are still fine (touch wood) and my mate has had them in his S13 which was driven on the street for a year and is now a track car, and on his S15 it has blown the shocks and they are some Japanese brand may have even been bilstien.

With calipers I got mine of ebay USA way cheaper than you will pay in australia.

yeah but just because they havent blown, doesnt mean they are good quality shocks.

Yeah I was talking to ajps about them.. Thought I would consult with somebody else first to see if I should get some made up or buy a set. I'm planning on running camber, I've been looking on 86dc and put a wanted add up but no luck as of yet , I'll have a look at that thread tonight I'm on my iPhone right now, got my steering arms now :) I'll upload a photo later.

 

Dream scenario would be to find someone parting out their 86 and pick it all up in one go.

 

If anyone's after 20 running gear, the rotors, suspension and pads are all almost brand new on my 20. I think it's got 2 inch lowered kings on the front.

Tally, how much camber have you been able to get before the strut strikes the inside of the strut tower?

haven't got coilovers yet, but there is very little room with stock AE86 struts in it.

 

Apparently gives 1 degree positive camber which I noticed...

Anyone know what spring rate would be ideal? A ke20 is a fair bit lighter than an 86 id imagine. Say 5kg?

Ye well they feel a lot better than my old setup which had new tokico inserts with 8kg springs, and have a few mates that have them and there not bad.

Yes, the stub axle inclination. That's the one problem, hence the need to go coilover with the small diameter springs and adjustable tops.

 

And of course you need TE27 adjustable tops. So it does start to add up after a while. Though you won't have any trouble selling on the AE86 strut tops.

Any other alternative I can get for camber tops? I could just run ke20 tops until I can get te27 adjustables right?
