Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Hi, all My first post here and I'm looking for some insight into what too look for in a 35. Oh and btw I'm thinking of swapping my 04 mitsubishi lancer for the fastback. Does that sound insane/worth it or is it just me,lol. And rust is covered he just got it painted ect, pretty sure its stock engine with some kind of race head on it and a 5 speed behind it. Cheers. Quote
madKE35coupe Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 for starters, check for bog. he may have just painted it and it may look good, but you don't know how extensive the repairs were before it was painted. second, check to make sure the 5 speed is mod plated, because from memory 5 speed didnt come out till late ke55's? and finally if you want to swap a 2004 lancer for it, you would want it to have rego and roadworthy supplied, and if you havent done so already, take it for a drive, see how well it corners, stops and starts......well actually make sure it does all the above. other than that good luck mate, should be a good car, they always are :) sad to see someone else getting a coupe after i sold mine :( Quote
Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 It go's pretty good, a lil slow for my liking but that can be fixed, its hes daily so its regod ect. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Find.out where they rust the most and see if magnets stick in those areas. If not, bog. Quote
Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 the rust isnt a big issue with me being a spray painter, I'm just wondering if I'm getting ripped off with the swap lol(kind of a douche question I know lol) but its hard to get a steady price on the ke35 fastback (apparently there realy rare these days?) coln72 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Check the firewall for rust REALLY carefully. Also look at the front edge of the bonnet, lower guards, and around the rear window and roof gutters. Quote
madKE35coupe Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 they are getting harder to find, especially in a fairly good condition. the lancer would be worth more without a doubt, but whats cooler: a 2004 lancer like every other lancer out there, or a KE35 coupe that is one of only very few that hasnt met the scrap yard? the coupes will only go up in value, will be worth more than the lancer in the not too distant future. :) thats just what i reckon anyways. god dammit i wish i hadnt sold mine :( Quote
Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 Hmmmm its really tempting, but concidering I was looking at r32 skylines and the like I'm abit worried about performance, 4a's seem pretty pricy. Quote
blktoy35 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Personally i would not straight swap an 04 lancer for a stock ke35.. no way! If it had a good paint job with before and after pics of work, clean interior,4age conversion lol, maybe. be patient cheap stock descent ones still come up for sale....you mention your a painter so bodywork is your thing... most ke35 will need attetion in this area. Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 The one I'm looking at rolled out of the booth today. I know il be loosing money now, but there awsome lol. Thank for all the info guys. Quote
philbey Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Going to raise a,point here: you ever looked through a crash repairers and seen how much bog they slap into some cars? Just cos he's a spray painter doesn't mean it's not full of bog. Do you know and trust the dude? Quote
coln72 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Going to raise a,point here: you ever looked through a crash repairers and seen how much bog they slap into some cars? Just cos he's a spray painter doesn't mean it's not full of bog. Do you know and trust the dude? Â As he said. Uncle was asked to paint a car that had been repaired by someone else. The owner was shocked when my uncle handed the owner what was left of the "repaired" sills in a shoe box. Â Another example. An ex girlfriends KE20. Looked ok until we stripped it down to paint. This was when we found that it was cut and shut, and that the sills were made up of newspaper and bog. Quote
Ant Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 Not really philbey, but I did see it before he got it painted, and ive worked in two pannel shops so I know what goes on lol. Quote
