poppers make it legal, that's a mechanical means of entry. some dudes route the door linkages down into the inner guard or something, and no ambulance driver is going to think to check the wheel arches to open the door, they'll likely just smash the window or windscreen to get you out if need be

And yeah... shaved handles aren't legal.. if there is another way to open the door, that's all that counts. Look at the rear doors on the alfa 156 :D
