hello everyone, i just bought a ae71 not long ago and just wondering how people sand back and paint there cars. tips on sanding would be great, thanks

sand, prime, sand, 1st coat (paint), sand with really smooth sandpaper, 2nd, 3rd coat, then couple coats of clear with some sanding between coats, not too much sanding with the 2nd and 3rd though.

The amount of coats of paint depends on the finish you want to achieve. I suggest you use the link I put up and do some research. Or at least provide some more information as to what exactly you want to achieve.

 

What kind if paint do you want to use? What is your budget? What condition is the car in. Does it need body work.

i already have a compressor and spray gun. my budget is low so i was just wondering how many ltrs of paint and clear would i need? and the best brands.

and has anyone seen that davey's ke70 who drifts in adelaide, i beleive he used primer then cleared it. looks pretty good

For my rally cars I usually do two coats of two pack. Shines off the gun. No need for clear. Looks good from 20 meters doing 100kph.

 

I usually buy 4 litres of paint + hardener + thinners. I usually end up with enough left over to fix any minor indisrections.

 

NOTE: Two pack is nasty shit. It also takes forever to dry if you don't use a booth.

your best bet is to go to the local paint supplier and talk to him...i spent a good 2hrs at my local paint supplier, and he even gave me a demo of the paint gun i bought. he will take you through how to mix the paint etc, what prep etc.

 

I did 1 coat of primer, 2 or 3 coats of colour and 2 or 3 coats of clear all in acrylic. not shine off the gun, had to buff it back. came up like glass though.

 

if you want real cheap and quick, go enamel, its shine off the gun, but apparently dark colours can fade quick in the sun, they suggest light colours.

 

i found the actual painting is easy, its the prep that takes forever, getitng dents out etc, i gave up on a few spots, to hard to get it right! bit me in the bum though, stood out like a sore thumb when i was finished. oh well.
