bruce Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Does anyone know if there is an off the shelf gear knob thread adaptor from an M8 to a M12 bolt? Got a 5 speed gear knob with the larger thread, but the shifter on my T50 has the smaller one. Looked at a few auto places and looked on the net, but nothing in that size. Thought I'll check if it's readily available, before buying a drill and tap. Would look something like this (from Japan): Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 Hey Leon. I slipped the small thread upper part of the shifter off and swapped it for a K40 one. Plan B for you. Tried Nuts & Bolts? Quote
bruce Posted June 16, 2012 Author Report Posted June 16, 2012 yeah, tried Nuts & Bolts and they didn't have anything. Quote
bruce Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 They sell them on eBay for $8 I had a look on ebay but there weren't any with 8mm to 12mm thread. Only ones with larger threads for European cars. Quote
bruce Posted August 1, 2013 Author Report Posted August 1, 2013 Just a follow up on the adapter. I ended up drilling and tapping an M12 bolt. Used an old head bolt from a 3TC. Couldn't find a softer grade bolt at the time. Bunnings only had high tensile grade bolts in the same diameter and thread. At first when I drilled the pilot hole the drill got blunt pretty quick. So I started off with a 3mm drill at low speed and worked my way up with 1mm increments until 7mm, with plenty of WD40. Then tapped an M8 thread. Tapping high tensile was hard, but doing a little at time with plenty of lubrication it was possible. Quote
GJM85 Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 I see why you wanted that knob. I've got one in my 20. It's a good knob. Quote
